I was at that Red Rocks show in '83. We were one of those fans that showed up in the wee hours of the morning to get front row seats. It rained all day and we were drenched by the time the show started. Well worth it!

This is the era of U2 I really love the most - they had a very spiritual vibe and their live performances were almost a holy experience.

I thought he sang: "Bring on the crowd, I love the crowd."

A German here. I was at the concert in 1983 in St. Goarshausen, Loreley and it was just great. The Edge had an insane guitar sound. The people were enchanted and it was a great atmosphere. After the concert I was able to get autographs from Bono and The Edge and asked The Edge about his effects and he asked if I also play guitar and I said yes. He showed me his effects pedals and gave me his cheat sheet with the effect settings. He was incredibly friendly. I will never forget that.

I saw U2 several times in the 80s and when they finished with "40", they would fade the instruments out one by one ending with just Larry's drum beat and let the audience continue while they left the stage. After one show at the Worcester Centrum, the crowd kept singing as they emptied into the streets. We sat on the common and listened for at least 20 minutes- you could hear it echoing from blocks away.

Man do I miss my favorite bands coming out with new albums every couple years and even the live albums like this. It was great growing up in the 80’s and 90’s with that happening. My 19 year old son is an old soul when it comes to music, he loves all the classic bands. I feel bad that he’ll never get to experience what a lot of us did with these great bands coming out with new material and then going to see them live in the tour that followed. What an awesome time to grow up in.

Here in Australia in the early 80s, U2 were seen as an Indi band. War changed that. New Years Day made the top 40 but wasn't huge. But Sunday Bloody Sunday exploded thanks in part to the video clip being their Red Rocks performance. I remember it being on high rotation on music video shows. It was one of those videos that you would stop what ever you were doing to watch and didn't want to end. As a young teen at the time, it spurred me on to buy the album. This live concert was pivotal in breaking U2 into the mainstream.

He doesn’t sing “I love the clowns”, it’s “I love the crowd”.
