Don't you hate it when you're happily planing away and suddenly out of nowhere a screw sticking several cm out of the board appears out of nowhere, phase shifts right through the nose of your plane, and rams your blade? ROFL

Matt, your videos on sharpening and setting a plane blade have taught me I've been doing it wrong for 55 years. That you are right is absolutely clear from the results I've immediately gotten. I've spent the evening sharpening all seven planes. Easy - and Spectacular -- thanks.

I want to thank you. I took shop class starting in 8th grade thru 12th. my shop teachers never showed anything about the plane. I didn't know the parts let alone how to use or sharpen. Their way of teaching was here is the plane there's the wood. Oh yeah, I'm 77years old. Thanks again.

During " lock down " i worked alone in a compound where a driver would drop a lorry off at night and fill the cab with antibac spray ready for me to enter the next morning to service them to keep them delivering .
At the end of lockdown the compound owner was moving to bigger premises so i got another job helping clear out the old place . This led to me getting a gross of 1" x 4" " Tam - o -Shanter " wet stones and a handful of 2" x 4" and a couple of big 3" x 6" ones . Sold the gross for a grand ( 1/3 of the retail price ) to a jeweller and kept a few .
The Tam-o-Shanter mine ran out in the 70's and closed so they are known as a " unicorn " as far as sharpening stones go , not their real use as Jewellers make a paste to rub onto soldered gold or silver jewellery joints and use it to both smooth the joint and carry base metal into the solder to hide it .
BUT when it comes to sharpening , it's more of a super fine polish that gives an edge a extra level of the meaning of " edge " .
These wet stones are a type of blue clay sedimentary rock that turns back to the clay / mud when wetted making a super fine grain paste that's a blue / grey version of " Jewellers Rouge " .
If you ever come across any - buy them .

You are a legend. This was the best explained video on sharpening. All I had to do was wait and you answered every question I got while watching. Thank you

Hey Matt, I'm just a woodworking apprentice at the moment... but man you show me once again why this craft is the best in the world. Thanks for the motivation again and again and again. Looking forward to your next video.

I've seen around 50 vids on sharpening, but the small sketch you did for the primary and secondary bevels and when to actually flatten the whole thing again to ~25, was the extra mile. Congrats man!
