We Scottish can put on almost any accent. We never lose our normal accent.

As a general rule, ALL these actors speak in their natural Scottish accent when not acting. This includes John Barrowman, who speaks in a Scots accent with his parents, who never changed their accent, while speaking in an American accent in all other areas of his life, including with his partner.
Moving to London does NOT change most people's natural, non-London accents.

British and English are NOT the same.
There is no such thing as a " British" accent!
English, Scottish , Welsh and Irish are ALL accents from Britain.

We Scots invented lots of stuff and have many great actors.

The good thing about Scots actors is we can really pull off pretty much everyone elses accent, but it's rare for someone outside Scotland to be able to do ours. there are exceptions obviously ;) (emma thompson springs to mind, but then her mum is Scottish and she spent a lot of time here)

David Tennant specifically (as you specifically mentioned him) studied acting in Scotland at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly known as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama). It’s a highly respected institution that was originally founded in 1847. It has such famous acting alumni as Robert Carlyle, Tom Conti, Alan Cumming, Tom Ellis, Colin Firth, David Hayman, Denis Lawson (who is also Ewan McGregor’s Uncle), James McAvoy and Ruby Wax (a US born comedian) plus musicians, singers and broadcasters. The reason why so many actors and indeed musicians from Scotland end up moving to England…and it’s almost always London and the it’s exact same reason that people with the same aspirations from other parts of England and indeed Wales, Northern Ireland and sometimes the Republic of Ireland and other parts of Europe, move to London…opportunities. The countless theatres, agents, possibilities to become part of specific acting troupes like The Royal Shakespeare Company. You can’t really do that when you’re living about a six to eight hour train journey away (and that’s if you’re living in Glasgow or Edinburgh, it can easily get far more complicated and become either somewhere around a twenty-four hour journey that includes an overnight ferry journey or a really expensive flight, if you live on one of the Shetland Isles). These are also the same reasons why so many people in the US who want to get into theatre acting, move to New York and those who want to see themselves on film, move to LA. You move to where the majority of the opportunities are and it’s only really when you have made a big enough name for yourself that you are sought out, that you can live wherever you want.

Oh and everyone on this list has made plenty of work utilising either their own Scottish accent or some form of Scottish accent…except maybe John Barrowman (there may well be something but I’ve never seen anything) but he switches between his Scottish and US accents very easily during interviews and both sound completely natural on him. Then there’s others like Brian Cox, who I always think I can hear a touch of his Dundee accent regardless of what character he’s playing. But all of them sound completely Scottish when interviewed…though Barrowman has to be asked.

It does help when they wear a kilt and play a bagpipe. One of David Tennant's first movie appearances was in a Finnish movie director Mika Kaurismäki's movie. Johnny Depp played a small part in that movies as well. Video: "David Tennant/LA Witout a map - Hot Fudge". Brian Cox acted in a Finnish director Renny Harlin's movie The Long Kiss Goodnight. Video: "Long Kiss Goodnight Dog Scene". Geena Davis was Renny Harlin's wife at the time. Planet Hollywood was opened in Helsinki. Video: "Tähtien yö - Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Renny & Geena - 1995 (alku puuttuu)". Samuel L. Jackson from the same movie starred in another Finnish director Jalmari Helander's movie. Video: "Big Game Official Trailer #1 (2015) - Samuel L. Jackson Action Adventure HD". That's how small the circles are in movie business. The world is surprisingly small.

Put simply, Acting is being what you're not.

As Larry Olivier explained, Sincerity is the key: If you can fake that, you'll be fine.
