  Michael Landon died at 54 he smoked 4 packs a day.  I lost my Dad from smoking Winstons, he wasnt a heavy smoker. died @ 44 Went to see doctor and was dead in 3 months. 9.2.72  I think of him every day

  Literally what is the difference between Hollywood back in the day versus today's Hollywood, everybody drinks, aside from that, there is much more drug use.

  The ironic thing about Carson is that he otherwise kept himself very fit. Played a lot of tennis, stayed thin, etc.

  The Red Skeleton show Flynn played a Hobo. Dressed in ragity clothes he walked across the stage stops and meets Red Skeleton they greet each other and then leaves.

  Early cigarettes like Camel were short so smoking multiple packs a day wasn't as bad as later years when King size and longer brands became popular. Makers also added ammonia to make the nicotine more effective, as it was the nicotine that got people addicted.  Clark Gable never flew combat missions,  he did sneak aboard some training flights before the Army sent him home at the request of this studio bosses.  The photo of him with officer bars on his uniform is from a movie, in realty he enlisted as a private and trained as a waist gunner on a B-17. The crew said he was humble and never sought special treatment.  I remember an ad in Post Magazine about smoking during a Thanksgiving dinner suggesting that smoking improved appetite and digestion and should be done between courses!  Some ads even suggested that doctors approved smoking which was a bald faced lie!
