This is the best thing I have ever witnessed on youtube, True Detective Season 1 being analyzed by the best Nietzche channel on youtube.

When this episode came out, I decided that I better finally watch this True Detective Season 1 I'd heard so much about, so that I could enjoy the podcast episode after watching. I put on the first episode and could not turn it off. I was up all night watching the entire thing. Called in sick to work the next day. No regrets.

my theory on rust's conversion is that by killing childress he allowed himself to forgive himself for accidentally killing his daughter. His worldview throughout the show was something he constructed as a kind of cope- if existence is horrible and pointless then at least he saved his daughter from it - by solving the case he balanced the cosmic scales and found forgiveness and the cope he'd been using up until that point was no longer necessary. What we see at the end is him reverting to the man he was before her death
