  Unfortunately HBO have seen fit to demonetize this video a month after release. I think it's fair use, but I don't have the ability to pursue that in court. I could reupload it, but then all your wonderful comments and views would be lost, like tears in rain. So I'm just going to leave it up, but if you do enjoy this content please consider supporting me on Patreon. It's literally the only reason I can spend time making videos like this. Also, I am no longer in charge of ad placement on the video. So if anyone watches it and experiences more than 3 ad breaks across the four and a half hours, please let me know here. I'm happy to not profit but I'm not happy with my audience/videos being spammed with ads to the point of being unwatchable. Should that occur I will take it down and repost it.

  One of the things I love about Rust is that, while it seems like he is truly a pessimist, there are hypocritical aspects to him that indicate he’s just a grieving shell of a human trying to contextualize his tragedy as something which makes sense within the nature or existence, either to rationalize his loss or just to give it meaning. He says he was “spared” the horror of being a father, but turns up to Marty’s drunk, because of the memory of his daughter and the prospect of interacting with an intact family, something which he says he does not care about. It makes him so real as a character that he lies to himself, and is still consistent to his nature in his self-deception. What a brilliantly written character.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02_HTdOWr5Y&amp;t=2134">35:34</a> for me, the most disgusting thing about marty’s character is how when they’re investigating the brothel, he sees that teenager there and is morally outraged. He gives her some money to leave and get a fresh start, but then a few years later when he meets her again, they hookup.

  I think you deserve an honorary PhD in film literacy after 3 straight bangers. I got hooked on Hereditary, stayed for Midsommar, and am beyond excited to sit through this True Detective analysis. I&apos;m being dead serious, you should consider being a film professor.
