  You left out the best option: &nbsp;Use somebody else&apos;s jointer.<br><br>If you have a maker space near you, sign up for a month and mill a bunch of your boards all at once. &nbsp;And, ya know, make friends and stuff.

  Alternative methods are useful. &nbsp;I’ve used them for years. But the jointer was one of the best tools I ever purchased, hands down.

  I subscribe to the school of thought that you can&apos;t have too many big woodworking machines to make your woodworking the most efficient, accurate and enjoyable as it can be. I have both an 8&quot; jointer and 20&quot; planer for getting my lumber straight, flat and uniform in thickness, plus an 18/36 Delta drum sander.
