"it feels like i'm just existing, and that's what we're supposed to do as human beings, we're not supposed to be bigger than nature." This hits hard, this is all I want. I am so burnt out on my corporate existence, I watch videos like this every day and dream, I have to figure this out, I'm almost 40 years old.

Definitely New is not always Better - I agree there. Everything driving us to buy buy buy, do things faster, bigger, work more, enjoy less... Those moments when you can step back, close your eyes and take a deep breath while you enjoy the environment you are in - Rupert has definitely nailed it. Thanks to him for sharing his stories and thanks as always Dustin for bringing us this fascinating content ❤

I live in Yamaguchi. Our family has an inherited old farmhouse in Hirao. It's extremely hard work to keep it in shape, but rewarding. Like you, I get lost in the moments and I love it. You couldn't pay me to move back to the UK!

I repair agricultural machinery for a living but prefer hand tools for my own small scale farming.
Obviously it takes much longer but replacing an axe handle is many times cheaper than a hydraulic pump on a powered log splitter.

I also love the sounds of a scythe or axe.

Thanks for telling this great story Dustin. I believe the aging demographic of the countryside is a global issue and Rupert's story highlights a big opportunity for people that are looking for an alternative to the city and are willing to put in the work. I look forward to your next video in Japan. What a beautiful country!
