I am pretty old, so it is a marvel to me to be able to watch things like this made by people I would never have met. Thank you for sharing your world. Your child butchering the tomato was the best thing I have seen today lol.

I started crying at your words that it does get easier. We live in a high desert in Colorado. I've been growing nothing but soil for five years. Climate here, ever hungry deer  and lack of soil make it very hard to grow anything. I came from green Saint-Peterburg, Russia into a desert more than twenty years ago and all those years i've struggled to create a garden at least somewhat resembling yours. We moved several times, and I kept stubbornly digging the earth. In our recent place I learned so much, that now I finally do have healthy soil that I grew from scratch starting in the spring of 2020, but survival rate on plants is still very low. I'm in my early fiftees, very strong, but recently I cry almost every day in despair. Will I ever see somewhat mature garden? Will I ever go back to my roots and have a homestead? I'm stuck in Colorado for a foreseeable future with only hope left that next growing season for sure will be better, but year after year is a dissapoitment. We did miss two summers here, went to live oversees for a year, so in reality it's been three years that I've been building my garddns infrastructure. . I don't mind hard work, in fact, I love it, but I want to see plants growing!  According to your calculations it's about to pay off. I really hope so, because I'm about to go crazy here.

"The land remembers your work." Beautiful! I'm in year 2 of small-scale homesteading, and this glimpse into the future is encouraging. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for saying "the outside tomatoes failed". I needed to hear that reality isn't picture perfect, as usually content creators portray it.

A very thoughtful and thought-provoking video, Laura. One thing that I would add is that you and Jonas were willing to do the work required to implement the systems that you have in place. You've also been willing to be introspective and ask the questions about what has worked and not worked to determine the next steps. It is also really cool to see Iliana imitating you both as she learns and grows. Peace to you all!

Absolutely amazing that you did it giving birth to two children. Congratulations.

We started a homestead on Canada's east coast in 2023. We grow almost all of our own vegetables now. Everything tastes so much better.  No artificial fertilizers, no pesticides. It is all purely organic and the taste...oh so much better.  Living this way, yes it is physical, it requires work but it keeps us healthy and strong not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well.  We feel connected with the earth that provides for us. It is so gratifying.  Yes, our brussels sprouts failed this year but that's the way it is.  Other crops exploded...cucumbers, tomatoes, green, yellow and kidney beans...so much abundance.  Like you, we are growing every year. It does get easier over time, you learn from your mistakes and gradually you become more prosperous....but, most of all, it is the connection to nature that, in my mind, is most valuable. And that is something that cannot be measured in money...

I am thrilled that all your hard work is paying off in the kind of healthy life you had envisioned so long ago. Iliana is growing up so fast! I hope your life in Estonia is safe and that you have a community of like minded people with which to share not only your bounty but also your ideas.
