Is Atlanta the blueprint for the future of American cities, or did it sacrifice its soul to become a global powerhouse? Let's discuss!

Oh, and don't forget about how Atlanta became a hub for the film and TV industry.

I've lived in the city (intown) since '87 and the transformation has been amazing. I love my city. The traffic still sucks, though. It's a great thing I live in a very walkable neighborhood (Virginia-Highland) so I don't actually drive that often.

2:36 No actually they weren't re built. Most people living in those neighborhoods were displaced all around the city and into the suburbs which caused more issues down there.

I think 285 is the heart of Atlanta I’ve never seen a highway more complex and vital to a cities structure

When outsiders talk about Atlanta. Morris Brown College is included as an HBCU

Real Talk... I'm surprised you didn't mention the 2026 World Cup coming to Atlanta and the effects it will have on the city.

Proud to be an Atlanta resident for many years. I enjoy watching the growth. The tech era in Atlanta is exciting! Seeing all the young tech professionals moving here and doing well...making 6 figures. The Beltline Trail is my favorite! I love the Cabbagetown neighborhood. Free parking and is walking distance to the popular part of the Beltline and is by everything that is trendy!!!

Unfortunately mega investment companies have swarmed Metro Atlanta and own 30% of the single family rental homes. Without intervention from legislators Atlanta will be just as costly as San Francisco to live

You are describing a tangled mess of 100+ cities encompassed in METRO NORTH GEORGIA and NOT Atlanta. This is what happens when internet people think they know... or have researched... anything. Fact Atlas is not fact-based. It's utter nonsense.

Much of this is not accurate. Atlanta was already a major city in the 1980s. The Atlanta city proper may have had some decline but it has never represented
'Atlanta" as people refer to the metro area as Atlanta. They did demolish some housing projects, but there was no urban renewal then especially compared to today. They rebuilt the freeways in the 80s on a grand scale with 4 level interchanges and 5 general purpose lanes in each direction. 2.5 million people lived in metro Atlanta in 1990. It has always been the big city in the Southeast, and was on fire with growth. For a decade those rotating search lights lit the sky across the metro indicating concerts and festivals. Airplanes circled overhead with advertisement banners every weekend. When the Olympics were announced the city built the necessary venues and much of it was sponsored by the fortune 500 companies based in Atlanta which was the defacto Southeastern base for many US companies. They restriped the freeways to create HOV lanes, and the Games in 1996 basically introduced the city to the world. In every year since you've had increasing numbers of visitors from around the world. The momentum hasn't stopped since the 1990s. Since 2015 the current development cycle has seen almost $100 Billion in new construction across the metro region. Midtown Atlanta has 70 new towers built in that time, and there are cranes up now. Currently the city is rebuilding sidewalks, intersections and repaving streets all over town. It's definitely one of the "It" cities now.

Frankly, many locals are not excited by the growth, sprawl, insane traffic and loss of Southern Charm. Developers are doing their thing to kill the essence of this one great city.
