  Do you know that the Piedmont crescent exists because the Asheboro area and the Uwharrie mountains were too steep when the state was building the NC Railroad in the 1850s so they had to swoop north to connect gold in Charlotte to the state capital in Raleigh and the state’s only inland port in Goldsboro?  It’s controlled NC growth since then.  Of course, the hills around Asheboro would work fine for a modern railroad.

  Amtrak and the state need to get the train connected to us in Winston-Salem.  We have an old depot they just remodeled. Driving to the High Point or Greensboro stations are a pain.

  Growing pains. I&apos;m elderly and I&apos;m able to remember what <i>all</i> of this was like when I moved to the Charlotte, NC metro area just about 4.5 years ago. Thank you for all of these trees. As a transplanted northerner who grew up accustomed to greenery, it&apos;s nice to see so many trees. The newer developments going up are largely lacking in trees. Have to address that. The only defense against the unforgiving sun are trees. Best wishes.

  Add Winston - Salem, NC and Greenville / Spartanburg / Columbia, SC. Every piece of land along I-40, I-85, and I-77 is being built on. Fast food, gas stations, and hotels near the exits. Warehouses within 1/2 mile. Massive housing developments within the next 2 miles. Some areas are just farther along in the process than others. All you have to do is look at who owns the property.

  Charlotte to Raleigh via Greensboro (via the Railroad line or I-85 is roughly 173 miles. &nbsp;No metropolitan area has those kind of parameters. &nbsp;Charlotte is expected to have over one million residents b y the 2030 census. &nbsp;The Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) and the Triad (Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem) are themselves 75 miles apart from the outer extremities. &nbsp;It appears more likely they could morph into a &quot;Twin City&quot;-type metropolitan areas (Think Minneapolis-St. Paul or Dallas-Fort Worth) with a greater density &nbsp;on the intermediate territory centered on Burlington attracting a greater level of development that would make for two metropolitan areas in North Carolina (Charlotte as a stand-alone would be the other.

  High speed rail from Charlotte to Raleigh, please.<br><br>The Charlotte commuter rail, light rail, and street car plan discussed in the video is over 20 years old at this point. The Redline commuter rail has been postponed each year since 2012. None of the surrounding counties want to pay for any infrastructure, even though their residents are the ones clogging up the highways each day commuting.

  At <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvtGbekrmSA&amp;t=227">3:47</a>, the shot of the &quot;Welcome to South Carolina&quot; sign says Aiken County. That&apos;s the west side of SC along the Savannah River and a two-hour drive from Fort Mill, the town being talked about at the time.

  &quot;The line on the ground getting harder to see&quot; is so accurate, between Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Garner, Cary, Knightdale, etc. It&apos;s all just one big city.

  At <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvtGbekrmSA&amp;t=154">2:34</a> is the architectural gem that was the Burroughs Wellcome headquarters in RTP. It was so futuristic at the time that it appeared in Natalie Wood&apos;s last film <i>Brainstorm</i> (1983) as the HQ of the company that developed the product central to the story.
