Atlanta burned to the ground during the Civil War and rebuilt itself into one of America's most powerful cities. What's the strangest thing you know about Atlanta? 👇

Atlanta came about because of a railroad hub.

That was Delta Air Service which moved to Atlanta. Not an airline, a crop duster.
Atlanta traffic isn't bad outside of rush hour. And rush hour only lasts from12:01AM to11:59PM.

I grew up on old national in college park. Imagine living in section 8 that's just a 30sec drive away from literally mansions. I never thought about it as a kid but now shit was wild

There is a specific geographic reason for Atlanta to exist where it does. Railroads don't like to be flooded and want any rainfall from the area to drain away. The stake the surveyor drove for milepost zero was located on the eastern continental divide. Any rain that falls east of the ridge drains away to the Atlantic Ocean, while any that falls on the west drains away to the Gulf of Mexico. That's why it is located where it is.

Savannah, GA is the "water " hub that serves, so to speak, for Atlanta and all of Georgia.

He forgets to talk about crime rates, and how investors don’t invest in high crime areas. Also, the city leaders have kept this divide in place because of horrible laws and policies.

Definitely agree, if you don’t drive, your income is restricted. Coming from California though, While the traffic can be cumbersome in ATL metro, it’s not as nerve racking as Southern California, where you can’t get around it. For every interstate in GA there’s is a side street that runs parallel to it. It’s really not that bad.

As a native Georgian of 77 years, I will enlighten you as to why Atlanta is the city that it is today. During antebellum times, it was a major railroad center. It remained so after the War Between the States. We don't think too much about railroads nowadays, but back in the day, railroads were the 18 wheelers of the day. Railroads were the only realistic and quick way of moving people and products around the country.
Later, during the civil rights era, Georgia was a more progressive state than Alabama and other southern states. Add to that three major interstates pass through Atlanta. These are I--75 running north and south to Florida I-20 running east and west, and I-85 running sideways. All those Yankees and other folks who live north of Atlanta enjoy going back-and-forth to Florida. They must pass through Atlanta. It adds up to a growing George, except the rural counties in South Georgia, which is where I was born and lived until 1961. Atlanta is a great place to live, but I hate visiting there. If you want to commit suicide, but are too afraid to do it outright, simply drive the speed limit through metropolitan Atlanta. 😂
