  The statue they were carrying was Syd Barrett.<br>I&apos;m 67 and yes the grass was greener, the light was brighter, with friends surrounded and music was better. Life was better.

  Important context: the “division bell” is used when the UK Parliament votes. A bell rings and the members “divide” (i.e. vote). So the larger context for this album is about making choices in your life, and living with the consequences of those choices, even when you never realized or thought about how long-lasting those consequences would be. For those of us like me with some years behind us, this hits harder and harder as the years go by

  June 2, 1995. I was jackknifed by a semitruck while trying to make a left turn in Windsor ON .. the truck was going over 80 mph. It took them almost 45 minutes to extricate me from the car and the steering wheel.. we were 45 minutes away from the nearest hospital. Things did not look good. In and out of consciousness.. medics.. nurses.. finally about three days later.. I realize I am not dead. They were really nice to me in the hospital.. the nurses showed me that they had brought some things from my car.. things of mine that, like me, survived this tragic wreck. One of those things was my Sony CD player which had a CD in it… The Division Bell by Pink Floyd. The only music this musician had to listen to for the remainder of my hospital stay in Canada. High Hopes to me represents a second chance at this life. I had a lot of work ahead, but those chimes at the beginning of track.. they’re like a time machine. A reminder of the day I learned exactly how fragile that line between this world and the next is. And I am so glad to still be in this world. ✨

  Pink Floyd invokes more emotion than any other band. They will always be my favorite.

  My 55 year-old self understands this. &nbsp;Deeply. &nbsp; <br><br>I miss my childhood friends. &nbsp;I miss having friends. &nbsp;I left them all behind to go find my jobs, my careers and my reason for living.<br><br>Yet friends were the only reason to live I needed as a kid. &nbsp;And I never found it again. &nbsp;In jobs. &nbsp;In careers. &nbsp;In money. In buying a house. <br><br>Yet forward I march. &nbsp;My past is still my present, always with me, but it doesnt hold me down. Instead it highlights what I have learned. &nbsp;Ironically, I do have deep friendships in my life...and it is with my children. What is past is present.

  Bit of context - Waters, Gilmour and Syd Barrett all grew up and went to school in Cambridge, and references to the Long Road, The Causeway and The Cut are all places they likely hung out together. &nbsp;They must have talked so much about the dreams they had... &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Love this song.
