Rewatching this feels like the early 2010s was kind of the last time movies came out and weren’t an IP, a franchise etc and could just be solid and creative in ways that make you think a little. And we all appreciated them.

40:30, as Old Joe said to Young Joe in the diner, "I don't want to talk about time travel because if we start talking about it then we're going to be here all day talking about it, making diagrams with straws. Just accept the situation and enjoy the ride." 😂

On 3rd Rock from the Sun, I always loved that despite being the youngest cast member, Joseph Gordon-Levitt played the oldest, most mature character as the ships information officer.
Where John Lithgow was the oldest on the cast but played the youngest character, an immature spaceship captain.

@14:32 - He's stuck in a loop... never ending, round and round and round... with minor changes, but still stuck. Until the End, when he breaks the loop for himself, and the world by the actions the younger takes. Another excellent reaction guys.

37:56 Making you close your own loop is a finally test of loyalty. If you are willing to kill your older self you are unlikely to betray and expose the whole operation and therefore are trustworthy enough to retire and live your life. If you don't close your own loop then they cannot let you retire and have to kill you.

Cid's actor is really remarkable (plus some great direction and editing, obviously). Manages to convey an eerie level of intelligence, and some genuine menace.

Great reaction, guys! I hadn't seen this movie since on release, and it was fun to experience it after having forgotten the plot.

Love a good time travel story, and this one has some solid examples of the classic paradoxes. It's also interesting to see the same character (Joe) being both the hero and the villain.

Young Joe's solution is kind of elegant. What other repercussions it will have is a question for another day.

Have you seen "Predestination"? If not, then it will be a great thing to watch after the "Looper".

If younger you doesn't close your loop, you get killed yourself so there IS no older you. You miss out on most of your life. That's the motivation to close your loop.
