The only fact that legitimately surprised me was that you always spawn on sand. I NEVER noticed that, but considering it makes you spawn near rivers and oceans, maybe the idea was to suggest you arrived in this world by being washed ashore.

    9:00 this is mental
There was a fan canon about player character "washing up on shore" at the beginning of the game, and many early let's plays started there, I was sure this was a cool coincidence, didn't know this was an intended mechanic (WHICH IS SO COOL)

Useful fun fact: swords actually mine everything slighly faster. This is useful for mining crafting tables, fences, wooden doors, trapdoors, wooden stairs, and wooden pressure plates, because they don't actually mine faster with an axe. Some stone blocks also behave the same way, which makes them really annoying to mine because they have to be mined with a pickaxe.

Dandelions being more common than roses makes sense, they’re considered a weed and roses are considered a fancy flower

    Some technical insights:
The reason some blocks take longer to break is because Notch forgot to add them to the array that makes certain tools break blocks faster.

Slimes splitting only when you do exactly the same damage as their current health is a bug, Notch mistakenly made the game check if their health was exactly 0, instead of 0 or less.

Another fact that you didn't mention here: The reason that attacks do 1 more damage since Beta 1.5 is because Notch tried to add critical hits but messed up the logic for their code, making all attacks do 1 extra half heart of damage if you're on the ground, and 1 less if you're in the air

Another one with beds; breaking a bed while sleeping will mess up the player hitbox until you sleep and wake up again, walking into walls during this will cause you to take damage (except in the case of walking into transparent blocks iirc)

The "enemies play idle sound while dying" quirk persisted long after beta. I remember younger me panicking as I would kill an Enderman, only to have its long angry growl sound play for several seconds. If you don't know mobs can do that, it makes for an extremely terrifying experience in a dark cave, wondering what the hell is screaming directly at you.

4:16 i was so glad someone pointed it out before being utterly disappointed. No, beta 1.8 did NOT make it so the mossy cobble matches. It only lowered the contrast, as the underlying texture is still the old pre-beta 1.7 texture.

If you have tilled soil directly on top of fences in beta, you can walk on it normally (not crouching) without ruining the soil or breaking the crops.
