  Therapist here.<br><br>One of the best indicators of how much a patient who has an abusive family is improving, as in getting closer to their objectives, is how upset their family is about with either them, the therapist, or both.<br><br>Make of that what you will.

  Ah, the “I’m going to sue them” fantasy… <br><br>I am an estranged child. <br>My mother did sue me trying to get my attention.<br>She lost spectacularly.<br>She now has to cover my expenses for a lawyer.<br><br>The irony is priceless, though

  I don&apos;t understand how parents can withhold medical care from children and not be checked by CPS. Not giving vaccines is just accepted, wouldn&apos;t be the same if the kids had injuries and weren&apos;t taken to the hospital. I don&apos;t get it, it totally baffles me

  I&apos;m a therapist in the US and I can confirm 100% toxic estranged parents blame therapists for the &quot;epidemic&quot; of estrangement. The evidence is that their kid went to therapy and after a while in therapy, went no contact or low contact. Obviously it&apos;s because the therapist &nbsp;&quot;set out to destroy their family&quot;. I&apos;ve heard stories from clients whose parents beat them, isolated them from all human contact, deprived them of food, called them evil and manipulative for normal things like crying when they got hurt, abandoned them for weeks at a time and worse. None of those parents think they did anything abusive and they are exactly who fills these estranged parents forums.

  The ones saying, &quot;we had a perfect relationship till they started therapy&quot;: Yeah, perfect for you. You were able to get away with your manipulation and control tactics because they didn&apos;t know how to push back, or maybe even didn&apos;t fully recognize what was happening. Then they started learning that they were allowed to have their own thoughts and feelings, and you didn&apos;t like that, so it was all the therapist&apos;s fault.

  Some people say &quot;respect me&quot; and mean &quot;treat me like an authority&quot;. Others say &quot;respect me&quot; and mean &quot;treat me llike a human being&quot;. And sometimes people say &quot;respect me and I&apos;ll respect you&quot; and mean &quot;treat me like an authority and I&apos;ll treat you like a human being&quot; and then wonder why people don&apos;t like them

  I was discussing &quot;Honour thy mother and father.&quot; with a priest once, &nbsp;I was having guilt about it. He pointed out that there&apos;re two side to this and that parents have a duty to be worthy of being honoured.

  As someone with estranged parents the worst is when I did speak about my boundaries or express why I was upset, they swore it “wasn’t me” and “who are you listening to”? It was all me. I wasn’t in therapy, or talking to any friends about this but, they just knew it couldn’t be me actually thinking independently. Pissed me off so much
