  My mother was a mud dobber—i hung drywall and floated mud with her as my first job the summer i turned 16. &nbsp;She could do all the decorative things even fancy ceiling scallops for some houses on the lake. &nbsp;She was an amazing, hard working woman and sanding drywall unprotected in a massive double-wide factory for fleetwood is what ultimately killed her with COPD and emphysema.

  Drywall is 50% cheaper than anything else. That’s an eleven thousand dollar difference in an average house. Unfortunately - in the Midwest, appraisers have caused an overall lack of quality in houses, especially drywall finishing. &nbsp;A bad drywall job in a house appraises the same as a company that has attention to detail.

  I used to remodel years ago and I worked on an old farmhouse that had seen many remodels. You could see the history of all of this. You missed a step there was a gypsum plasterboard that had holes in it for the plaster to come through and mechanically adhere to the board lath

  You can still find plaster walls easily in the US. Unfortunately the plaster is 120 years old, cracking, water damaged, has never been repaired before, and now needs completely torn out and replaced for unreachable prices. They call them starter homes these days, which is just a synonym for unsafe and uninhabitable dumps.

  10 years ago when I was finishing my house I had a choice of drywall vs plaster on the top floor (walls are ceramic cavity brick called porotherm, very popular here in Europe). I decided &quot;traditional plaster&quot; despite people telling me &quot;you have styrofoam insulation on the outside of the wall, there is zero water vapour getting through that, but I wanted it anyway and it was a very good decision.<br><br>10 years later I&apos;m still happy with it. The house has always had a very nice&quot; climate&quot;, but one additional thing I had to pay attention to was the right type of paint not to &quot;seal&quot; the plaster.
