  These are the kind of houses that give the street appearance that its owners are super important. Then inside you find a crystal chandelier over top of a card table. And a formal living room with webbed lawn chairs. The kid’s bedroom is a mattress on the floor. Don’t open the refrigerator. There’s probably a single plate of beans. I knew a woman who was a real estate agent. She used to tell these stories.

  Can we just have good houses that aren’t giant McMansions, but also not skinny shoeboxes that are just one big room with small side rooms? Bring back the old Ranch styles

  I moved to the US as a 24 year old from England. First job was lawn care and this was my first thought on American houses. My exact words… they are like movie sets.

  As a former carpenter to a former building inspector, most of these homes are 15 and 30 year mortgage cycles that’s about all they’re worth. I could go on beyond the reasons listed in this video. But the video did some up quite a bit of it, not all of it.

  Inflation & the economy killed it nearly 20 years ago. The same thing that kills everything killed it: greed at the top.

  Cheap construction seems to be true of cars too. All the computerized gadgets can't hide the other cheap plastic or aluminum, or fiberglass parts.

  Well i have a home thats over 120 years old.   the problems with the older homes is that you needs specialized carpenters to fix things that go wrong

  I lived in a mcmansion and hated it. Front of the house was super dark inside, 2 story walls were impractical and made all furniture look miniscule. Bought a mid 70s ranch with tons of natural light, no stairs, all brick, huge lot with no neighbors in the back. Couldn't be happier.

  I feel so sorry for the people who bought these homes at top dollar. Only to find out it was really just a scam that would begin to fall apart in a few years. criminal
