  This is why I only use Scripture for lyrics. The Word of God is beautiful and powerful whether you read it or sing it.

  I agree with most of your points -- especially that of much of today&apos;s worship tending toward self-centeredness. However, one of the challenges we face in analyzing worship songs it taking genre into account. We recognize the Psalms as being under the general genre of poetry and subdivided in genres of hymns, laments, etc. Yet we can tend to look at modern worship songs through the grid of didactic (teaching), leaving no room for poetic genre. The Psalms are full of expressions that, taken literally, would cause us to pull back. <br><br>Ps 118:10-13<br><br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;10 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; All nations surrounded me; <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;in the name of the LORD I cut them off! <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;11 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side; <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;in the name of the LORD I cut them off! <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;12 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; They surrounded me like bees; <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;they went out like a fire among thorns; <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;in the name of the LORD I cut them off! <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;13 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;but the LORD helped me. (ESV)<br><br>This is only a small part of this psalm but by itself could be seen as &quot;I&quot; oriented as well. My advice in processing worship songs would be to keep in mind the poetic genre of music lyrics in general -- there is still no room for heresy, but there is room for emotion and perspective, just as there is in the Psalms themselves. Take a step back and ask, &quot;what is the overarching point of the song?&quot;<br><br>BTW, I appreciate your heart in presenting this. It is not attacking but caring and that&apos;s nice to see.

  So blessed to find you! &nbsp;You’re doing what I wanted to do. &nbsp;I’m 60 and have been in worship bands since I was 17. &nbsp;Like you, God convicted me of singing/playing the music from these heretical churches and songwriters. &nbsp;I approached the leadership with my concerns and they said they weren’t going to change anything. &nbsp;They sing “what makes me feel good”. &nbsp;I walked away. &nbsp;So now I write/sing/play and record my own songs. &nbsp;Keep up the good work!😊

  In the early aughts I worked at a Christian bookstore and I worked next to the music department and spent many hours listening to Christian worship while I worked. One day after many months it dawned on me that many of the songs were &nbsp;saying I am going to do this and you God are going to do this for me. Lots of I I I I and me me me as in &nbsp;I&apos;m going to do this and then You&apos;re going to do this for me, God. Hopefully someday it will swing back to just worshiping God about Him and who He is and &nbsp;without any mention of what he&apos;s going to do for us or a mention of I. &nbsp;Just found your channel today and am enjoying it so far!

  One thing I think we can all agree on is that God miraculously, healed the little boy. Sometimes I wonder if we as Christians are more judgmental than God. He is the only one that can judge the hearts of people. I can appreciate the discerning of lyrics in Christian music and also taking a stand when something is obviously inappropriate. I think we have to be careful not to insert our own opinion and biases. It makes me sad how much division there is right now in the body of Christ. I think we should look for ways to come together give each other grace whenever possible.

  When my granddaughter was very ill, we had to resist the idea that, because we love the Lord, our granddaughter would certainly be healed… just read Job! We are to praise God in all circumstances… THAT is the fruit of faith. And that does require faith. This brings &nbsp;freedom.
