  The fact that he manages to insult her <b>mid-proposal</b> and is still stunned that she says no 😂. &nbsp;Like he thinks he’s saying “I love you so much that it borders on irrational” but it comes out as “I don’t even care that your family sucks and is poor!”

  Another amazing thing—men weren’t supposed to ask women again once they’d said no to a proposal. You had one shot, and that was it. That’s why he asks if she’s rejecting him—he’s clarifying whether this is a thing open for discussion or if she’s giving him a formal no, and she makes it clear it’s a no. So when Darcy does all those things for Elizabeth after she refuses him, he’s not doing them to “get” her. He can’t “get” her, because it would’ve been scandalous to ask again without Elizabeth broaching that subject, and he’s a man who respects good social boundaries. He’s doing these things to make her happy. <br><br>That’s why the aunt is a character—it’s so she can go to Elizabeth and demand that she promise not to marry Darcy, so he can learn of her refusal and suspect she would be okay with him raising the subject again. And it’s why he emphasizes that this is only a result of the convo with the aunt, not him just pressuring her. He’s a good man who understands why etiquette exists as it does—he doesn’t want Elizabeth to be afraid that he’ll abuse his power as a rich man with tremendous influence in society. He’s telling her that she can safely say no. The cherry on top of the Darcy Perfection Sundae.

  Great reaction. &nbsp;To answer some of your questions:<br><br>The Bennet family is part of a social class that no longer exist today called &quot;The Landed Gentry.&quot;<br>It&apos;s a class of land owners who make money off of the land they own. Mr. Bennet is a gentleman, therefore he doesn&apos;t have a job. Neither do his wife and daughters.<br><br>Today, they would be considered part of the upper middle class or lower upper class.<br><br>Their money problem isn&apos;t that they&apos;re poor, but that their entail stipulates that only a male heir can inherit after him. Having had FIVE daughters, &nbsp;that leaves them in a bad spot.<br><br>Bingley&apos;s father was a working man, but he made a fortune. &nbsp;That ensured that his children would have class mobility and never have to work.<br><br>Mr. Darcy comes from an aristocratic family, &nbsp;so he also doesn&apos;t have a job. He just runs his humongous estate (which brings him money).<br><br>Fun fact, as the 19th century went on, the fortunes of many European aristocratic and gentile families started to dwindle. And, since they weren&apos;t expected to work, they couldn&apos;t gain funds.<br><br>Meanwhile, &nbsp;the USA was starting to become the world power that it is today. America entered the Gilded Age and a lot of working families made fortunes.<br><br>Although actual work was looked down upon by the gentry and the aristocracy and the nobility, working men started to out-money them.<br><br>That resulted in many noble, aristocratic and gentile European men marrying American women of lower social classes, but heiresses of big fortunes. <br><br>The industrial revolution really helped blur the lines between social classes!<br><br>Ps. Cinderella’s dad is a rich merchant. He’s a man with an actual job!

  One thing I love about Jane Austen’s works is how they have misunderstandings tie directly into the flaws of the characters so it doesn’t feel forced, or just for the sake of drama.

  I love how in the scene where Elizabeth tells Darcy he should practice talking to people he tries to do exactly that in the next scene. Like he was really taking Elizabeth&apos;s remark to heart

  Fun fact: when Elizabeth visits Pemberly for the first time, the same music that played at the beginning plays. <br>The director said that he wanted to show how Pemberly felt like home to Elizabeth despite not being even significantly similar to her house. <br>Because finding the person you&apos;re supposed to be with feels like going home.
