  I love that everything Elizabeth complains to Darcy about, he tries to work on. Conversation? Check. Dancing? Check. And so on. He is constantly trying to better himself for her.

  It’s very easy to look down on Mrs Bennet and put Mr Bennet on a bit of a pedestal. His ‘chill dad’ persona is more likeable from a modern perspective. But they were both bad parents imo. At least the mum tried. Mr. Bennet should have started saving for better dowries. He should have taken charge of the mr Collins situation and maybe recommended Mary as a better match personality wise. He should have cared a little bit about Lydia and not let her go off alone. He didn’t do anything to secure his daughters futures and basically just mocked his wife for taking it seriously.

  Women had to remain "pure or clean" before marriage. Lydia and Wickham did not run off and elope originally, they just ran off and hooked up. This would ruin Lydia's reputation and no gentleman would want to marry her after. This would also extend to the rest f the family and ruin the prospects of all her sisters, so it was absolutely devastating news considering they had no brothers and would one day lose the property which was not only a house, but was a farm estate and is what also provided the family income. So it was a rush to find Lydia and Wickham before he ran off and left her alone and force them to marry.

  Well, to be fair, there wasn&apos;t really anything else but marriage to secure their futures for women at the time. It&apos;s not like they could just get a degree and get a job to support themselves. And Mrs. Bennett has five daughters to take care of, no son to inherit and look after them when the father dies. They&apos;d basically become destitute. So her obsession about getting them married is a bit warranted. The father might be cooler and won&apos;t force them to marry people they don&apos;t want to. But he&apos;s not really doing anything to support them in the future after he&apos;s gone. He&apos;s a very yolo dad.
