Great discussion. Learned a lot and this discussion needs to get out in the public square. A lot of education also needs to get into the public square before truly meaningful and intelligent discussion can happen.

wishlist: dual fleet (saab and lockheed, total combined 110) and then whichever cca (boeing, minimal numbers) and then hypersonic reusable cca (possibly saab) that goes with gcap, hypersonic cca systems will probably be available sooner than the gcap planes :p

We did it in WW2 and ramped up big time. We can do it again. Canadians are very smart and resourceful. Gripens, naval vessels, drones at scale, missiles will start the ball rolling. New tanks and self propelled artillery to come. We may need to kick ugly ass in the bureaucracy.

Great discussion. The F-35s could have been purchased years ago (under Harper) and we would not be in the awful procurement situation we are in now. Instead we would be looking at a future replacement, developed with our non-American allies.

In my opinion the ship-building strategy is the real procurement mess. We already spent far too much money developing an overly modified frigate design and handed the contract to Irving which will take not years, but decades to finally have them completed. Instead we should be investing heavily in our shipbuilding capacity to have them completed sooner given the current geo-political environment.

The steps taken by the current government are in the right direction but it really remains to be seen how much will really change on the procurement side of things. I will try and be optimistic.

We nees to have our Canadian built remote subs under the arctic long before our new German built subs.

I'm not sure I really see any military threats for Canada.

49:55 That’s a tough pill for me to swallow as a tax payer because I already feel very stretched re: cost of living. The notion that the HST will go up and oh we’re going to waste money sometimes is just a bitter bitter pill. Hopefully the investment flywheel Carney talks about will get spun up enough to blunt this.

275000 federal beauicrates all on the payroll.
We drop a 100,000 of them no one will even notice them gone, they don't even have to show up to the office. That's 15 billion a year put them under the axe and invest that in our miltary.
