Some questioning about background props behind me in this vid lol ... My GF went to visit her family in Poland so I was looking after her son's little zoo of creatures, including cockroaches, crickets, a praying mantis, a tarantula among other things. Basically it's an allegory of the Lago town in the movie and all the vermin that live there ;)

Pale Rider had supernatural elements as well. The preacher seemed to come back from the dead.

I love the gorgeous opening and closing shots of the stranger appearing from and vanishing into the heat haze of the high plains. The shots are beautiful and clearly metaphorical.

It’s interesting to me that it took Kubrick 140 takes per shot to get to “Kubrick level,” and Clint could get there with two.

The movie really illustrates that small town mentality. They way that the townsfolk refuse to step in and help the sheriff. Their physical and moral cowardice is the real evil.

Pale Rider is kind of the light-side version of the story. They make an interesting double bull on thst account. Vengance vs justice. Punishing the guilty vs aiding the innocent.

It’s a brilliant film, my dad got me into it. It’s way deep. Clint is in many ways underrated, as great as he so obviously is. That’s the world we live in.
