  I actually processed the first Mad Max movie in Sydney in a film lab Called Colorfilm. It immediately caught my eye as the daily rushes rolled off my machine. (Called rushes because the day's filming had to be viewed by the production team to assess quickly on whether a reshoot of a scene was neccessary. Normal practice in movie making in the days before video)  A huge difference from the tedious diet of bushranger or Australian history based films made until then. Little did I know it was destined to be the most revered and iconic Australian movie ever. I am proud I was one of the many Aussies who was involved with it's production.

  This was the very first movie I ever watched on VHS. It was the early 80s, and there were very few places to rent videos. The one year for Christmas my dad rented a VHS player and a whole bunch of movies. I was maybe 11 or 12 at the time. That was the best Christmas ever. Sitting around, watching movies when we were off school. I don't remember what other movies we watched, but I will never forget Mad Max.

  I worked with one of the mechanics who was front and centre in creating the &quot;Mad Max&quot; car, along with many others from the original release. Rob Orchard was his name. He busted a lot of myths about the original car, while I worked with him.<br><br>The original car was a real high miler. It was the cheapest car that the producers could lay their hands on. It was not a healthy car<br>at all. It was down on power, somewhat &quot;smokey&quot; and well worn.<br>The blower unit seen in the film was in fact a non functioning unit. It had cracks in the casing and the internals were modified so as to<br>not produce pressure. The blower was purchased from a drag racer, with the deal being done in the car park of Calder Park raceway.<br>The blower was fastened to the top of the standard air cleaner using what Rob described as a &quot;few self tappers&quot;. By all accounts, it was not fastened very securely, and Rob and the team were always waiting for it to fail when the blower shots were done.<br>Induction was purely provided by the standard carburettor and air cleaner, hidden beneath the blower.<br>There was no electric motor driving this unit and the switch that you see used is for cinematic purposes only. The unit was driven from a pulley attached to the magnetic clutch on the A/C unit and was operated by using the A/C switch. <br><br>The vast majority of exterior shots featuring the driving scenes were performed in Central Victoria, in and around Clunes, not the &quot;outback&quot;.<br>If you want to know about the bikes, let me know.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYiummf7XdY&amp;t=1425">23:45</a> -- Max&apos;s partner (Goose) was not dead when he was first shown the V8 Interceptor. &nbsp;It was after the bad guys killed Goose and his wife (while they were on vacation) that he came back and got the Interceptor.

  #11. The Interceptor was given to a mechanic that worked on the original film as payment and converted back for daily driving. George Miller had to buy it back for Mad Max 2.
