I almost left this incredible find behind | Relic hunting

Some of the best relics I've ever found came after I decided to leave the obvious spot behind. This adventure started at an old colonial cellar hole in the New Hampshire woods. Within minutes my Fisher F19 locked onto a beautiful Tombac button from the mid to late 1700s—a fantastic way to begin the day. But after that, the signals became few and far between. Instead of staying put and hoping for another good target, I decided it was time to move. Crossing old stone walls and walking out into what were once colonial pastures completely changed the hunt. Before long I wandered into a small pocket of activity where the detector just kept coming alive. One interesting relic appears to be the butt plate from an old musket, followed by several more period finds. Then, right at the end, came the piece that made the whole trip worthwhile—a beautiful Civil War-era shield buckle that was absolutely worth the walk. Days like this remind me that old landscapes don't always give up their stories where you expect them to. Sometimes the cellar hole is only the starting point. The real discoveries happen when you're willing to slow down, read the land, and explore beyond the obvious. If you enjoy relic hunting, colonial history, forgotten farms, stone walls, and exploring the hidden landscapes of New England, I think you'll enjoy this adventure. About Not Thursday Not Thursday is about exploring the forgotten landscapes of New England—old colonial farms, abandoned places, stone walls, railroads, cellar holes, and the stories still hiding in the woods. Through relic hunting, landscape history, and quiet exploration, each adventure is a chance to better understand the people who came before us and the places they left behind.
