as someone that has made many a tree using the craft paper trick (stage crew), it can be best to build out the desired shape first with unaltered brown paper, then get into the prettier twists and details and then add some watered down paint for that extra dimension at the end, with some dry brushing as the final touch. depending on how u do it, the texture can sometimes turn out cartoony or over exaggerated, which is what we were going for in sets since the audience is far away, but i think that there are ways to make it look more realistic if that’s what u r going for

Ok, woodworker here... you absolutely crushed the veneering of that IKEA thing. Like... REALLY good. Pretty sure ✨slay✨ is what I'm looking for here; I'll check with my daughter.

Adding in the moss and those mushrooms you made was actually a brillant ideal because it help to disguise and hide those new lines you made with the cardboard cut outs. Its very fairycore, super cute.

You can put acrylic paint in a spray bottle… it just needs to be a WASH (watered down) and use a STRAINER. And yes PPE, and good ventilation are always good for the human!

Look up theatre scenic art, we do A LOT of creative crafting and artist sculpting things that aren’t common of even realistic! Scene Shops sometimes have Chanel’s you can find some cool unique techniques

You might want to use crepe paper over your "tree trunks". Buy a convincing grey-brown color paper and glue it with thinned paper glue. It will help to unify the twists in the "bark".

Paper maché is NOT fragile! It's a great thing to use in a lot of places as it's strong and light. The only downside with it is that it doesn't tolerate wetness very well.

Serpa design creates lots of realistic wood textures using expanding foam and then carving out the wood shapes and painting it. To be fair, it’s for realistic animal enclosures. But it’s a really good technique too :)

I love your creativity. This looks good!!
An idea: You can install small hooks in the ceiling along the tree branches and hang fake foliage (I'm thinking leafy garland), and you can change it with the season. Nothing or fairy lights for winter; green with little flowers for spring; green for summer; and the yellow, brown, and red for autumn!

So I don't have a feel for the paper used but if you use water based paints on it then it will "melt" into a better shape and get different tones to hide that it is paper. The texture of the paper influences this a lot cause if it is closer to the smoothness of the baking paper then you need a lot of water. If the paper is more prous then it will absorb faster and it's less messy. Use towels either way 😂 looks fantastic already ❤

This video was nice, and it turned out so great. My only thing would be to put wood vinyl on the top of the shelf on the bottom because you can see the white underneath, and it WOOD flow all the way through
