To me this reads more "high concept fashion" than costume. I think the geometric style of the leaves makes it less literal - more like using the flower idea to celebrate fabric manipulation than trying to "look like a flower."

That flower dress is absolutely stunning. Rather than ‘costume’ I would call it avant-garde.

Respect from a fashion designer. I know exactly the hardwork of handling the silk satin on bias and the struggle of turning a vision into a real dress. I always have two boys fighting inside my head during the process just to bring out the best for my works. I guess we are on the same boat!

I love it. It doesn't read too costume-y, just playful. As far as draping, just call this one baby steps.

The bodice with the folded leaves and draped stems feels so sophisticated, and red carpet

i agree it looks a lot more costumey than your usual fare, but that in NO way cheapens the result. it reminds me of the shapes for old ballet dresses, where everything is exaggerated so the far seats can still appreciate it.

i know originally the issue was you couldn't find a more muted green in the first place, but maybe borrow from the techniques of your gradient dresses, and bring the leaves down 1-2 more layers with progressively lighter fabrics? the starkness of the jewel green against the very pale pink adds to the 'costume' look i think, where a more subtle transition between colors might ease the eye into the structure of the dress.

still gorgeous, and maybe lean into the playfulness of it with some extra sparkly jewelry and hair pieces!

Experimentation is always to be applauded. The draping you did on the bodice is the most beautiful part of the dress for me.

When I was in fashion school, some of our teachers used words 'costume' or 'costumey' as a pejorative (even tho some of us were in costume design major, we just didn't get specialized classes till 2nd year, me included) and I never agreed with this nor do I understand it. It seems like a distinction that exists mostly because of elitism, like if your design isn't far enough removed from the inspiration you are doing a bad job and you don't have good enough ideas kinda way. And what is wrong with wearing a costume? They are fun, whimsy, can be just as beautiful as 'fashion desings'. Design doesn't have to be so unconventional and so far removed from the inspiration that you can't even tell what it was in the first place. Sometimes more direct approach is just as good, sometimes simpler ideas can be the end goal and not just a stepping stool for 'final" design. I love this dress, it's magical and honestly I could get married in it. Also I don't know how I missed this video 😂 Good yt reminded me of it before the next one ❤

There really is no right or wrong way to draping, everyone approaches draping in a different way. What you have done is just approached draping in a way that felt good to you, it’s not wrong it’s different. The end results speak for themselves and that dress has a stunning look all of its own. That is what draping is all about, it’s about getting the look that YOU are looking for, it’s not about finding a look that SOMEONE ELSE is looking for.
I love the way you approached the leaves, they flow while also at the same time are structured, you found a method that fitted you perfectly, honestly I would never of thought of using origami as a draping method at all, but now it is something I can see many benefits from using that method in creating a outfit.
That is what draping is all about, it’s finding a balance between the structured and something that flows, you actually found that middle ground and made it work.
