After a total of 21 years in the classroom, I quit because I was overwhelmed. Working 12-14 hours a day, but I never could catch up. Also had to deal with vulgarity, threats of violence, and a growing disconnect between the curriculum I was told to teach, and the abilities of the students. THAT gap killed my love of teaching.

I can't believe how many new tasks I have since I started 14 years ago. It's always been hard, but now it feels impossible.

We need to bring back accountability for the students and parents. Students need to be suspended or expelled if they are disruptive and violent and left back when they fail. And parents need to be held liable if their child destroys property or physically harms teachers or anyone in the school. All those extra duties imposed on teachers over the years are to be delegated to other professionals. It will not matter how much more teachers are paid when all the extra duties are IMPOSSIBLE for one person to do!

I lasted 39 years many of them I loved they were wonderful. After COVID things started to go down hill for reasons you have documented on this channel. I retired this June with hypertension, Type 2 and debilitating stress. When they want to reward teachers they give us doughnuts! Now I’m retired lost 20 pounds on my way to recovering my health.

As a special education educator, the paperwork, progress monitoring, and documentation alone is easily several hours a week, this is outside of planning lesson plans, preparing materials, and teaching actual curriculum to students who are going to be tested on state standards in less than 10 months. It’s absolutely overwhelming and quite frankly, impossible for any one person to do. Educators should not have to work 12-14 hours a day, and weekends just to try to put a dent in the workload 😩 it’s not sustainable

I don't even get five minutes between classes. Back-to-back, no bathroom break

I am a retired teacher who still does substitute teaching. If I was a newly hired full time teacher today I would not make it.

I quit in 2009...it was bad back then...AND I taught the upper crust kids. Arrogant kids..... And I learned that they didn't really want me to teach the kids..I was just a pricey babysitter.

In addition teachers are expected to be nurses. In my school there was no nurse so teachers were given a supply of band aids and other items. Couldn't give out aspirin of course. The workload expected from administrators, parents, politicians and others is utterly overwhelming.

I gave up trying to keep up with the workload in sped. I have ten years left before retirement. I hope I make it.
