I'm in an unusual position because my upbringing was very laid back Catholic, but in college I had a religious experience and got sent in the direction of extremely conservative TradCath-ism. That ruined my mental health and has probably left scars, but I'm healing gradually. For me it was discovering that the most ardent Catholics were also the most merciless and legalistic, as well as the fact that they lied constantly about the Church's history, trying to sand down the oppression and claim we were always the good guys. Thank you for your story.

Had to deconstruct myself over the past year. It’s been long and painful.

I left Relgion after 28 years.  I’m sooo much happier as an atheist.   No more  twisted thinking  trying to justify the contradictory beliefs of Christianity in general and Mormonism in particular

When people read widely of many texts on many religions, then they realised they are just human creation.

I have seen a Pastor vociferously requesting and guilting his Church audience in Oklahoma to give one tenth or more of their salary 😳.  I was disgusted.  Thank-you for sharing.

A few years ago i made the prediction that religion would be a fringe phenomenon (similar to flat earth belief) in most of the world by 2100. I’m still standing by that prediction 😂

I think you are spot on about the number of people walking away from traditional religion, especially Christianity and Judaism in the US. One of the latest Pew polls said the decline had paused, but it may be the pause before another fall. You really see this among the young. I share the perspectives you have about where our current US society, and its Administration are heading, and its scary. There is another, I'll call it a movement, because I don't think it qualifies as a trend yet but it could develop momentum, and that is a cross-fertilization of attitudes, beliefs, and practices from differing religions. You touched on this in your comments about "spiritual but not religious" folks. As you point out, people have access via the internet to views from Christianity to Buddhism to Hinduism to Jainism to Nature-based religions, secular traditions, and so on. Already, for example in quiet corners, there are contemplative Christians who actively involved in a Buddhist Sangha or have indirect ties to Vedantic Hindu traditions and even Nature-based religions. Of course, the orthodox elements within any of these traditions will scream "heresy", but I see it as recognizing the common elements within all of them and seeking ways to understand the cosmos in a 21st century, and beyond, context as informed by science in its micro, meso, and macro levels. Those leaders are in corners here and there, but their voices may be increasingly heard as they call us to recognizes the interconnected of all life and our responsibilities to aid all beings to fulfill their highest potentials as they themselves are defining in accordance with the teachings of love and compassion taught by all the great religious traditions (Buddha-nature and Enlightenment? Christ Consciousness? Realization that you and Brahman are One? God/dess energies? But the labels are unimportant?). I suppose this is a long winded way of saying that the old religions may die (or at least limp along on life-support for the few who still adhere) and something new and more expansive might emerge and its cosmological teachings might sound more like physics than Bronze Age speculations. Yet we recognize our deepest connections and the responsibilities that requires. Sorry for the long post.
