📡 Question for everyone:

Before watching this video, which antenna did you think was "better"—vertical or horizontal?

Has your opinion changed after seeing how each antenna radiates, how polarization works, and why antenna height makes such a difference?

I'd love to hear what type of antenna you're using and what has worked best for you.

73,

Trevor Telecom Training

I have an end fed off center fed antenna. It fits my space and works well. I’m thinking of putting up a 20m 1/4 wave as a comparison. Absolutely love your channel!!

I like inverted vee's. One main support and close to 50 Ω to match the transmitter.
I have five in my attic 20m to 10m and one for 60m squashed into my 13' x 25' garden.
A long wire (Well, 25') with inductance on the far end for lower frequencies. My copy of a Joystick.
G4GHB.

The most important part is near the end.

As in your previous videos, you misrepresent RF as DC, and in doing so, you make mistakes.
First of all, define a "return path" in an AC circuit. If current flows in both directions, how can there be only one return path?
Secondly, you present RF as if it was water shooting out of the transmitter, through the feed line, splitting at the antenna feed point, half going to the left and half to the right, and then shooting out the ends. RF doesn't work like that. At 3:25, the current path on the dipole would never look like that. For this half cycle, the blue arrows on the dipole are pointing in the wrong direction. They should point left. On the second half of the cycle, all arrows on the dipole would point right. You make this mistake in several places (4:06, 4:59. 6:35, 7:02, 7:22, 9:56 and more).
At 9:46 and other places, you show the dipole with signals shooting out the ends. That's wrong. The signal is broadside to the dipole.
Don't treat RF as if it were DC. It isn't. It's AC and that makes a big difference in understanding what's going on. Show both halves of the RF cycle. By doing so, you will see your mistakes.
