  One thing worth mentioning—if you’re someone dealing with addiction (whether it’s doomscrolling, substances, or anything in between), your brain has likely been rewired to resist anything that doesn’t offer the same instant flood of dopamine. That resistance can show up as boredom, frustration, procrastination—anything that pushes you away from slower, more meaningful effort. The more support and compassion you give yourself in navigating that, the easier it becomes to actually do the thing.

  I've been a lifelong gamer, starting with IntelliVision when I was 5, and now having my own custom gaming PC at 47. Becoming a video game developer has been my dream job for decades. But like you said, upon further reflection, the amount of time and effort it would take to become a video game developer far outweighs my desire for my dream to become a reality. So it will continue to be a dream. However, my favorite part of video games is the storytelling aspect of it, and I do have stories to tell. So years ago I started focusing on creative writing, and I am currently drafting my first novel. I want writing be my reality, not just a dream, because though it will also take time and effort, I want that dream of becoming a published author enough, that I will do whatever it takes to make it a reality.

  When I was a teenager I wanted to be a comedian. I went to university, met a bunch of other like minded people, had a great time, did shows with them, and, not meant as a brag, I was decent (for my skill level), but I knew so many who were better than me. When uni ended, I focussed on a normal career related to me engineering degree, I tried to keep dabbling with comedy, but ultimately I knew I wouldn&apos;t commit to it the way that successful comedians do. I wasn&apos;t going to gig several times a week for free to an audience of 3 people that hate you for being there in a random pub an hours drive away after work. I knew so many that did that every week because they wanted to get better. So I stopped, I did manage to get closure on the dream, but now, it&apos;s kind of unclosed. A few people I knew from uni made it to the big time, and it stings. It was easier to let go when I thought of success as borderline impossible regardless of effort. All I feel is that I wasn&apos;t brave enough or disciplined enough to bet on myself, because it&apos;s not like I enjoy the safe career I went for instead.

  I had the dream of becoming a video game developer for 20+ years of my life. So for the past 5 years I chipped away at learning how to do it... All in my spare time. Last year I started a solo project and finished it in a year and released it on steam a couple months ago! Working on my second game now! :) If you&apos;re reading this, you can make your dreams happen!

  I’m an old man now, I’ve been a “dreamer” since being a teenager in the 60’s absorbing the hippie highway road map to the yellow brick road. &nbsp;My reality has always been the winner, the real life I live is the only life that I can actually touch. &nbsp; Having said this….my real life is my dream come true, I am waking up to the life that I have built through the hard work and dedication I have sacrificed decades to achieve. &nbsp; My sacrifices to be the artist I am have not given me stacks of money or the monetary material stuff. &nbsp;I have chased since my youth to be free, to be not trapped by the world’s bullshit and walk the path of inner peace and in this world there is all that is needed.<br> &nbsp; &nbsp; You are the age of my 3 sons, they live in the mountains and ride snowboards. &nbsp;They are looking for happiness and peace for themselves in this twisted culture. &nbsp;They have the balls to follow their hearts and when they are old men I hope they can reap what they have sown…..pick the right dreams and they are there to have as your reality, pick someone else’s dreams and you’ll never have them.

  I will say that sometimes we just need to scale back our dreams, not erase them entirely. &nbsp;I also have a dream of creating my own video game and publishing it to wild success. &nbsp;It&apos;s a fun fantasy to have, and I still daydream about it for fun. &nbsp;But the reality is that I have zero video game development skills. &nbsp;So instead, I&apos;ve decided to make a goal to learn enough that I can participate in a game jam as a pure hobbyist. &nbsp;It&apos;s in the same vein, but at a much more casual scale. &nbsp;And if I later decide I really want to go all in, I can. &nbsp;But for now, just casually playing around with unity is fun.
