We had a late 1970's Allis - Chalmers 8550 tractor that Allis affectionately called "The Beast". The engine was a BUDA design perfected by the Allis engineers and she took care of over 1600 acres of our farm. The biggest Allis - Chalmers engine I have seen was an 880,000 horsepower steam turbine... 2,400 psi going in and the exhaust at the condenser was running at a 20 inch vacuum. Standing on the isolation deck of that monster and you felt nothing except the heat and sound of that work spinning a generator. I still have a single blade of the first stage...hard to imagine that much weight spinning at 3,600 rpm for years on end. 🤯🤯

At Alcoa Davenport works our number 1 cold mill had 2 giant 10 foot tall motors made by allis chalmers. That mill was installed in the 50’s.
