Newspeak. I think it does an injustice. We shouldn't soften the concept of suicide, murder, or rape.

Love this! I'm so tired of hearing "unalive"

THANK YOU. This has been bothering me so much lately, and I've seen first hand how this messes with kids. It's really skewing how they process and talk about important issues that impact them, and it genuinely worries me. I think it's so gross that we've been doing this to ourselves just to appease some soulless advertising corporations. Thanks for bringing attention to all of this!

We probably also need to start calling "influencers" what they really are: shills.

There is a polite euphemism that was before the Internet: "Passing away". You don't say someone died. You say they "passed away".

If I had lost a loved one to suicide, and some YouTuber or TikToker said they had “unalived themself with a pew-pew,” I would be so hurt and angry.

Cutesifying death to appease a corporation is something that has really given me the willies. I'm really glad you're speaking about this, Amy.

It's bothered me for years. These are important words that need to be said out loud as they refer to very serious things. Sex, Drugs, Kill, Murder, Rape, etc... I'm fucking tired of it. The one that disturbs me most is censoring "suicide". I've known 3 people who committed suicide, and I feel like it overly softens the impact of the word when you replace it with "unalived" or "Self Deleted". It just angers me. These words are heavy and uncomfortable for a reason, and that reason needs to be felt.

I refuse to use those newspeak terms.

Just 10 years ago, none of this existed.

YouTube went into my account and deleted a private playlist because certain videos had "questionable content." They sent me a warning. None of the videos were created by me. Used to be that they deleted questionable videos and they would disappear from the list. Now they are cracking down on the people watching the videos. Kind of scary.

Algo-speak annoys me so much, it's even bleeding over into real life. My nephew was doing an English assignment for school, and he was even using “unalived” in his school work because he legitimately thought it was the correct euphemism to use.
