I am a 62 yr old petite woman. I’ve been having hip pain and reduced mobility for about 4 yrs. I started going to PT which helped my pain but still had a lot of stiffness. I had an X-ray that didn’t show anything and an MRI in Dec 2025 which showed bilateral diffuse labral tears and cysts. In March I was told by a surgeon that I needed both hips replaced. I was devastated and refused to believe that surgery was the only solution. I discovered this YouTube channel and began doing the glute and muscle balancing exercises for labral tears. I got immediate relief by starting non-weight-bearing exercises and theragun muscle massage. I’ve been doing the exercises inconsistently 2-3 times/week. I returned to the surgeon’s office recently and got new X-rays and a prognosis that I don’t need surgery and may not ever need surgery.

My double hip replacement was the best decision of my life. I was a cripple for 5 years with hip joints covered in bone spurs that literally locked my joints from moving. I'm doing great now!!!

Her comment at 21:40 about pressure from friends/family to just get on with it and get the surgery happens to me. I can't seem to get off this walker yet but I sure can squeeze my glutes! Translating that into taking steps without support is what's hampering my progress. Oh, btw, a friend of ours had hip replacement done and NEVER WOKE UP FROM THE PROCEEDURE. So there's another very serious concern for us seniors being pressured to go under the knife!

I tried every exercise to avoid surgery, nothing worked. At 66 I had a total hip replacement, best decision I ever made, The replaced joint feels totally natural. If this stuff worked we would all know about it. It might work in rare cases where a surgery wasn't really needed. The surgery was a life changing event.

Great interview. My wife is going through the same thing. We can relate to the pushback that goes on.

The reason is that you are a tiny fraction of 1% prepared to take responsibility for the problem and work to resolve it, to tolerate the pain and discomfort, to have the patience and faith to persevere.

Susan Westlake wrote a very interesting self help book having cured herself of hip OA and one thing stands out in my mind in this context. She asked her GP, who had admitted that correct exercise can cure the condition, why do they not recommend it. His answer was that over 99% of people wouldn't be bothered and would end up in the same place anyway. Of course, he had no answer for the vanishing minority who have the determination to get better.

Most people have a consumer attitude to everything these days. Health is just another commodity to buy when you want it, or get the state to pay for it.

Absolutely excellent take away: there is another option beyond a hip replacement! Rebalancing the muscles takes time and dedicated effort. These guys educate, and support you all the way. The results are undeniable: first reduced pain, then no pain, then more strength and improved mobility and gradually a return to former activities. I’ve worked this program for over a year now and can’t see myself ever stopping the exercise program that I learned through EPMPT.

In my case, my hip arthritis, bone on bone was caused by a bad walking gate slightly off, along with gaining a lot of weight taking care of an elderly parent while working, along with muscle imbalances around the joint pulling it to the side of the joint and massive inflammation set in. Mild to medium cases often can be helped and improved with fixing those things. But surgery could also be necessary if your range of motion is noticeably less and the joint often locks. Although anti inflammatory medication can lessen the pain and help sleep, long term use can damage the kidneys and slow down or prevent cartilage regrowth. If you have some cartilage left, taking the right supplements and the right physical therapy can help to slow down degeneration and grow a little or strengthen cartilage. The used a cane and crutches for a few weeks until I got the inflammation down, muscles around the hip more balanced and walking gate a little better. There are physical therapy exercises to lubricate the hip and or knee and to strengthen the weak usually glute muscles. Prayers and best of luck. There are natural anti inflammatory La like turmeric, (curcumin), ginger, omega 3.

Several of my friends have had hip replacements and are relieved and happy. It was not an option for me -- similar reasons to Sigrid.
In 2025, I had torn ligaments in legs and hips (excessive work & didn't feel it until i did); then lower back sciatica; healed both with lots of rest, alternating
with appropriate movement.
Finally only pain was arthritis in my right hip. Now working on that -- it's working! Follow Dr David. I'm 80, female, petite.
Happy for Sigrid, what a beautiful person!
