  I cant believe I've just spent half an hour watching a man in a shed try to start an engine. What's more, this is better entertainment that you'll find on the television!

  Introducing my late father, George Frederic Morgan.  Dad (better known as Mog) served in the Recce Sqn of 3CLY (County of London Yeomanry) in the Second World War.  I was shown a photo of the squadron and I was told that only one man didn't end up KIA or WIA.  That man was not my father.  Dad drove his Daimler Dingo over a Teller mine and was blown or thrown clean through the open top, collecting a badly smashed ankle on the way.  He landed in a bramble or thorn patch which he said hurt more than the ankle.  Guys, for Dad's sake, please do your best for this particular Dingo.

  From an old mechanic. Simple way to check if it&apos;s your valves or rings when doing a compression test. Put a squirt of oil in the bore and redo the compression test. If it&apos;s buggered rings, the compression will come up, if it&apos;s valves or head gasket, the compression won&apos;t rise. The oil gives a temporary seal to the rings<br>For setting valve clearances on a straight motor, 4,6,8 cyl, get, (as an example on a six cylinder) the valves on the opposite cylinder rocking (let&apos;s say number 6) then you can set the valve clearance on number one cyl. So you do opposites, 5 rocking set 2, 4 rocking set 3, 3 rocking set 4, 2 rocking set 5, 1 rocking set 6. Thought this might help

  In his autobiography &quot;Balkan Blue&quot; Major-General Sir Roy Redgrave describes an incident with his Dingo in Guildford just before D-Day. He was based at Pirbright and as he drove up Guildford High Street his Dingo expired outside Woolworths. While his driver sorted out the Dingo, he observed a group of Canadian soldiers coming down the hill and when they saw Woolworths they rushed over to the serried array of prams with their babies lined up outside. I am old enough to remember &quot;No Prams Allowed&quot; signs outside Woolies in the not so distant past. Anyway, the Canadians shuffled up all the babies and Redgrave mentions that before too long the High Street somewhat resembled what would be a modern day scene reminiscent of &quot;Herod&apos;s Massacre of the Innocents&quot;. Women were rushing around desperately but he reckoned after a while all the right babies were back with the correct mother. He thought it was a dirty trick but as D-Day was looming he understood that the Canadians were probably not thinking about posterity and were cheerfully doing some crazy things. Redgrave was badly wounded in Europe but in the last few days of the war near Bremen one of his troop&apos;s Daimler Dingo scout cars was struck by bazooka fire and burst into flames. Despite being under intense machine-gun fire, Redgrave climbed onto the burning vehicle to rescue the wounded wireless operator. He was wounded during the rescue but managed to move the operator to the safety of a ditch while he armed himself with a Sten gun and grenades to attempt a rescue of the driver (who had unfortunately been killed) before crawling through fields to reach his unit and bring back reinforcements. He was Vanessa Redgrave&apos;s cousin it seems and his autobiography is very interesting- he was born in Bucharest as his mother was Romanian- his father worked in the oil industry- in Romania for a while.

  Should there be oil on the valve train after that much cranking? Could be camera not picking it up but the top of the engine looks dry and it seems like it should have some oil getting pushed up after so much testing.

  My Dad used to drive a Mk.1 Dingo with the progressive 4-wheel steering where the rear wheels didn&apos;t always re-lock into the straight-ahead position after the manouevre, requiring the driver to swing the steering wheel repeatedly left and right! &nbsp; I recall him saying that hill climbs from a standing-start could be a bit hit and miss possibly to do with the fluid flywheel! Great video, guys!
