  Those Deuce-and-halfs are real beasts. I remember a great story of an old dude who drove his truck down to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina without any coordination with anyone.  He ended up being a lifeline to isolated communities, with first responders immediately loading him up with supplies and assigning him missions all over the area.  He could drive continuously through over meter deep water and debris blocked roads where other official rescue vehicles could not pass.

  I love these trucks. Had a few myself over the years. The steering boots were always a pain - they were prone to slipping off. The yellow nose on the bonnet was something the 8th Transportation Group did so that the top brass could identify which trucks belonged to their group when flying above in a Huey. All my trucks bar one sported a yellow nose and 8GP markings when I had them.

  I know a German guy who had one of these trucks. It was multifuel and he&apos;d go round the local garages picking up diesel/petrol mixes which had been recovered from misfuelled cars. It was a win/win disposal system for him and the garages!

  They told us on driver training that our Canadian Army MLVW&apos;s were multi fuel and could run on Chanel #5. But the maintenance sargents threatened to lockwire our arseholes shut if we ever ran them on anything but clean first grade diesel.
