43:05 - The scene serves a purpose. Margie is sharp, but not naturally suspicious of people. This meeting with an old schoolmate taught Margie that people aren't always what they seem. That's what prompted her to go back and talk to Jerry about the lot count.

I feel like the Coen’s really wanted to highlight the banality of evil. Having it contrasted with the normal, happy lives of Norm and Marge is so smart. It’s like they’re on the opposite side of the spectrum from Jerry and the kidnappers, in every sense. It’s a perfect testament to how unnecessary and harmful greed is, how it erodes you and leaves you all alone

The Coens' penchant for "over-developing" their characters in ways that aren't important for the plot, just to make them more real, is on full display here. I consider it the most defining trait to their original screenplays. Marge is possibly the only prominent female character in a film who is introduced as pregnant, but who doesn't have the baby by the end of the movie. It's a violation of what a lot of people consider to be a bedrock rule of cinema, and the Coens break it all the time, to amazing effect.

The accent from that area comes directly from Norway. You can tell by the last names. Huge Norwegian influence and it comes out in the sing song accent.

I can't devide what's better, the movie, the reaction, or the editing. Such a fun time all around!

The question about state troopers, in the U.S. we have multiple levels of law enforcement. City (police), county/parish (sheriffs), state (patrol/troopers) and federal (FBI, Marshalls). State troopers mostly police the state and interstate highways. Which means a lot of traffic stops.

58:20 the irony is that the woodchipper body disposal is actually the only part pulled from a real case lol

The wood chipper, with the faux leg, is in the city museum in Fargo, N.D.

The duck stamp competition is a big deal. There have been a few documentaries on it and the people they mention are usually the winners in real life

The Coens later admitted that this was NOT based on a true story. They just added the notification to make the story hit harder in the way that they intended. It was a great but controversial fake out.

Just a simple, lovely story of a supportive, pregnant policewoman doing her job wonderfully, returning home safely to her husband who, despite having his own dreams and goals, also supports his wife 100%. Wonderful!
