  former uscg here... &nbsp;the vastness of the oceans is surreal. &nbsp;literal ancient beasts long thought extinct for millions of years are still here AND living large. &nbsp;great way to get a dose of just how insignificant we are is to be on the deck in the middle of the ocean

  My daddy was in the Navy during the Korean war. He told me crazy stories. He said that human war makes the things in the ocean go crazy and makes it easier to see insane things. He told me that really bad storms do the same thing.

  I will never forget seeing something large and tall on the horizon while sailing as an Integrated Rating (Australian Seafaring qualification) north of the Great Barrier Reef in far North Queensland. Being on a blue water cargo vessel, we were a way out in the shipping lanes. It was quite a distance away from us and whatever it was was big. It actually looked like what you would imagine a sea serpent would look like standing upright in the water, so as to be visible, it appeared very tall and appeared to be moving at speed. During my years as a sea farer in Australia, I saw many whales and other sea creatures but this was something definitely out of the ordinary and something I will never forget.

  Much longer than 300 years. The Sumerians and Babylonians were writing of giant, sea dwelling serpents thousands of years before.

  As a US Marine on active duty in the 90s I spent some time on ship all over the Pacific Ocean and we always saw some unusual sights!

  In the 90s, I was TDY to Abu Dhabi, UAE. &nbsp;Air Force paid for everything, housing, food, transportation, beach rental, windsurfing rental. &nbsp;So I taught myself how to windsurf. &nbsp;After 2 weeks, I finally got the hang of it, &amp; was cruising the ocean. &nbsp;One day, I ventured out far, like over 1 mile from the shore. &nbsp;I was enjoying the moment &amp; the wind in my face, then it hit me. &nbsp;There was total silence. &nbsp;The din of the city was gone, no car noises, no construction noises, nothing. &nbsp;Only the gentle lapping of the water. &nbsp;That&apos;s when I realized I&apos;m very tiny in this HUGE ocean. &nbsp;Immediately headed back to shore &amp; always stay near the shore afterward.

  I was fishing off of a peir in Pompano Beach, FL as a kid about 12 or so, and my dad tapped my arm and pointed and we could see this enormous snake-like figure bending in the water. &nbsp;I looked forward a little and saw another part of the creature and realized the snake-like figure was some type of tail or neck. &nbsp;It was massive, and Ive tried for years to find a creature that matched, but cryptids are the only thing.

  Sea/lake momster always been my favorite cryptid and I think the most believable and plausible to exist
