We’ve been married 26 years and are still very much in love. My wife was a sahm and homeschooled our daughter. I worked a job but we met up for lunches and I was always home every afternoon. We prioritize each other and protect the relationship. I have turned down many opportunities for more money because it would have taken me away from my family and I knew that was a bad recipe for a marriage. The fact that I have a wife and grown daughter that smile and hug me when I see them means everything to me and I feel like a billionaire.

FYI: This is not just for husband/wife this applies to ALL relationships... especially your friends and families.

Finding a way to be right together. Key statement. Because if one partner isn't interested in compromise, all is for naught

I've had to walk away and been left. I would much rather have something like an exit interview and a handshake.

It is very scarry to step deeper into your vulnerability. You need a safe space for that. If you are met with criticism, etc. it’s not safe anymore and the conversation dies. And what is said there has to be kept secret, even after a divorce.

A lot of this advice is very practical advice from old folks who have already been through it. It's the typical quiet and boring advice that we always overlook. We want get rich quick schemes instead of putting in the work. Even people who win the lottery lose everything very shortly.

I gain so much from listening to the Gottmans. The only issue is I'm still finding someone to practice with. 😅 Lots of notes in the meantime.

I think betrayal or cheating is almost impossible to fix once one looses trust on the other

I needed to hear all of these things. After surviving DV I am still relearning how to connect and how to not always be in defensive or hypervigilant mode. There are so many little skills you have to relearn, it's like learning to walk again. Thanks so much ❤❤

I have gone through my list of exs while listening to the podcast. My relationships have been one sided. 😢 my gut has been right. I have selected the wrong partners for myself. Only one is a good man but timing was the issue. That is long gone. Now I have been focused on myself.
