During the blackout that happened in Portugal and Spain there was meshtastic to those who had it, and let me tell you, it did work! Also the community exploded right after

I don't know crap about mesh. But I do know this. A friend actually used it to get help when his cell phone didn't get signal. It saved his hide and got him air lifted and saved his life. <br> I do appreciate your take on radios. Please keep up the amazing work you do!!

Meshtastic is really starting gain in popularity where I live. I have started carrying a node with me everyday now. Yesterday received a message from a person in an airplane at 35,000ft overhead then I hopped through his node and exchanged messages with a guy in Dayton OH and l live south of Indianapolis. All of that with a little pager sized gadget and my phone. Super cool potential there and very easy to deploy in an emergency.

I heard that in North Carolina after the hurricane, meshtastic users were the only communication grid that remained operable. I would assume that there were a few ham operators also, but North Carolina being a tech savvy state, there were apparently enough meshtastic nerds in the destruction zone to provide communications. When I heard that meshtastic quickly became the primary backbone communication network in the disaster zone, that sold me.

I keep a mini helium canister and a few balloons on hand so i can deploy a small mesh node really high up from a kite string temporarily. Huge gains while established a command post.

In an emergency, any system is only as good as the people using it. When I lived in Torrance, California, the hams in our area formed an emergency communication team. We had the blessing of the Torrance Police Department and had weekly nets. In this case, the group was well organized and also trained by the police. Thankfully, our services were never needed, but the people were well prepared, just in case. You can have a group of people on a system, but have they been prepared for emergency communication?

One of the great things about Mesh radio is that there are enough licensed Amateur Radio operators in most areas who are interested in using it. A HAM can set up repeaters that transmit at 10 Watts (as opposed to the 1 Watt limit for unlicensed users), and will often have them mounted to a tower that they own or have been given access to by a local government entity. This can increase the range of the mesh substantially; with verified point-to-point transmission ranges of up to 150 miles in favorable conditions.

For me, the tinkering aspect is actually a big upside. I’d like to know exactly what’s going into my project, but I am lucky enough to have access to a lot of tools

There is a large saturation of Meshtastic videos out there. Even the well watched often have hearsay "facts" thrown in. This is probably the first one that nails everything accurately. Nice job. Subscribed and won't hesitate to recommend this channel.

I’m just starting down this path and have to say your presentation really cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Thanks! Can’t wait to get started!

It is the reason I am here right now, looking at options for community comms for emergency use.
