Good video… I demonstrate all these at our local Harvest Ready Fest. The big difference between MURS and FRS is that MURS you can get with removable antennas, which will give you a lot more distance. FRS are all small fixed antennas

🦜Much appreciated information. As a radio operator, I have a hard time understanding why most folks don't have a handful of two ways and know how to use them🌄

I recommend, a cheap baofeng K5PLUS for your HT, and a Anytone or Retevis 25-50W radio for mobile/base.

I use CB for low wattage/range transmissions like FRS

We're upgrading our backpacking rigs from GMRS to Wouxun KG-Q10H + 50MHz Moonraker 12-074 that will be mounted to the backpack. It's quite a powerful combination, 50MHz travels pretty well through the hills with 4' antenna. HF all has like 8' and longer antennas so you'll be snagging doors and trees everywhere. Also the 50MHz antenna works for 145MHz so we can still use VHF/UHF repeaters. Yes there are way more powerful radios on the market but you will be lugging giant batteries around. For longer distance we decided on a pair of Iridium sat phones. Yes they rely on infrastructure but I think Iridium is quite robust

Gmrs shares channels with Frs and can communicate with each other FRS 500 mW to 2 Watts Gmrs 5 watts to 50 watts. FRS licensed by rule Gmrs requires the mentioned license that covers your family under the same license for 10 years. My group uses both gmrs and murs depending on the situation. We use CB as well but usually when someone is being a pain on gmrs / frs.

SHTF only needs DMR

Do you really think that in times of SHTF the FCC is going to be worried on who is licensed. I have a 10 watt handheld ham set that I will be using only in times of emergency.
