I don't want to be resilient, I want to be happy

My friend sent me Anwen Reid’s anxiety quiz with absolutely no explanation. She literally just said, “Take this and tell me what result you get.” That somehow makes me much more nervous than if she had explained why she sent it 😭

I was a firefighter for 17 years and my career ended prematurely due to an injury in the line of duty. I worked as a firefighter during hurricane Katrina. I lost my healthy baby boy 14 years ago to SIDS. I actually found him unresponsive and had to perform CPR on him. I lost my mom whom was the only parent that i ever had 5 years ago and i still struggle with losing her. I now work in an Administrative roll for another Fire department and this position is very challenging mentally. Your videos have become a part of my daily routine and a vocal point in my journey to taking control on my life and anxiety and depression issues. Im slowly becoming more productive to the point that my coworkers are starting to notice this positive change. I still have a long battle ahead, but i just wanted to offer a sincere thank you Dr. Marks. God bless.

It's so hard to control stress when there are continuing external factors causing mental and physical injury 😢

To anyone reading this, it can and does get better over time. Rewiring the brain from negative to positive thinking takes a lot of work. Ive sat there for days, weeks and even months just telling that negativity im better than it. Its taken years for me to begin to feel better, like a person with confidence.

You matter, you are worth saving. There is only one of you in this entire world and thats something special. You got this! I believe in you!

Chronic stress is the reason why I can’t work a job for over a year now. Mental breakdowns every day, constant nervous system activation. It literally destroyed my life.

for someone who lived constant violence for 15 years, narcissistic/psychopathic abuse from so-called friends and family.. the only way to calm the amygdala is sleep, sleep, sleep, Propranolol and isolation from anybody who can hurt you, even work if you need too, and breathwork, creative hobbies (learn on skillshare, youtube, whatever but try to learn something new everyday) and respect your rhythm but try to go out even if it's just once a week, just make baby steps. It will be a long journey but you can do this. And, if you feel like you're doing nothing (dissociation can make you forget your day) write down everything in your journal, it will help your memory and it will make you feel good about yourself

I was my elderly mother's sole caregiver with limited respite for several years. It's been 6 years since she passed, and I feel like I'm still trying to recover. I have a hard time with unexpected challenges, such as getting a new phone set up, or addressing an issue with a home appliance (a heat pump in this case). My brain's CEO definitely checks out! Thank you for the validation and helpful suggestions. Thanks to being retired as of last May, I had the luxury of staying in bed, awake and back to sleep, until I finally feel rested today.

She mentioned that physical exercise doesn't NEED to be strenuous. I'll add here that strenuous exercise can sometimes exacerbate chronic stress because it can kick us into fight or FLIGHT.
