  I went the other way around and went back to the 90s &amp; 80s and made some layman studying in acustics and and focusing on high quality equipment to a very low price. &nbsp;<br>And a PC to have access to modern futures. &nbsp;<br>Some things have limitations but theirs always more then one way to Rome to get the funktion you desire.

  Just replaced my Onkyo TX-SR705 that I bought in 2007. It was running 7.1. Replaced it with a Denon AVC-X4800H about two weeks ago. Still running 7.1, but it sounds so much better. Should be adding ceiling speakers and a second sub in the next couple of months.

  I just setup my Denon X3900H w/ Polk ES60, ES35, SVS PB 2000. It&apos;s amazing! I have 70-RT&apos;s I&apos;ll add soon

  I like how the general visual styling of AVRs hasn&apos;t changed at all over the years. My AVR is almost 30 years old and if you set it next to one you bought today you wouldn&apos;t be able to tell which is newer with just a quick look at the front. <br> <br>Some pros and cons of new vs old too. Old AVRs don&apos;t have HDMI input, but they DO often have both powered outputs as well as pre-out outputs for channels. I noticed when I was looking that most newer AVRs that do have HDMI input don&apos;t usually have pre-out channels; the ones that do are usually super expensive, whereas old ones that still do what I want, can be had for very cheap.

  I am still running an Onkyo TX-NR797 from 2019 with SVS TITANS and full SVS ULTRA EVOLUTION 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos set up. With two of the SVS PB3000 R/evolution subs.

  I have a AVR-X3800H 9.4-Ch x 105 &nbsp;set up in a 5.2.4 config, in my opinion 4 height atmos channels are a must have, it has totally change the immersion factors on everything I watch.

  There&apos;s a massive difference from the 3x00, to the cheaper options. The cheaper options can&apos;t play stereo, without it sounding like crap. At least, if you want to turn up the volume. I just switched from a AVR-X2400H, to the AVC-X3800H. It has been a massive upgrade, and for the first time since I switched from stereo to surround, I now have an amp, that sound excellent for music.<br>The stereo perspective and depth in the misic, got a massive upgrade. And where my old receiver started sounding dreadful at less than half volume, the new one actually only sound better, the hogher I play.<br>It was my local hifi store, that convinced me about upgrading my receiver. I came to the store, to replace my center channel. When he heard what model receiver that I had, he kept saying to me, during several visits, that I needed to upgrade the receiver first. While the new receiver hasn&apos;t made me want to forget a new center channel speaker, the improvement in clarity on the new receiver, has been quite an improvement. I actually had my dream center channel on loan for 4 days, before he finally convinced me to upgrade the amp first.<br><br>So, even if you only want 5.1, buy the 3x00 or higher model, at least if you care about music. I only use 7.1 and have no plans to add height speakers.<br><br>I also used the free software, A1 Evo AcoustiX software, to calibrate my speakers. It requires a USB mic, like a Umik 1, which I had laying around. It&apos;s a massive improvement, over Audyssey.
