In a hobby/pass time predominantly influenced by men, it’s refreshing to get a touch of realism from a woman.

Most of these tips are OK, but you seem to have forgotten to use two most important instruments for setting up your speakers. Fortunately most of my customers don't have a clue about these either, so they pay me for it. These specialized devices are your ears. Last year I built and set up a turntable for a new customer, and after listening told him I will set up his speakers. He was baffled saying that they were the designated distance from the wall, correctly toed in, and the optimum distance apart. I said OK, let's see. As I moved the speakers and listened, he became increasingly amazed at the differences he could hear as I went along. Finally, I said I was finished, and the speakers were now in a slightly different place and orientation, although not a million miles away from where they originally were. My customer said if we had achieved the same result with an expensive upgrade, he would have been happy, but this was free. I said I haven't given you my invoice yet!

FYI, if you have Shahinian speakers, forget most of the advice in the video, as removing the grilles, using spikes etc will actually degrade the sound. Make no assumptions and just use your ears.

Generally good advice, except three possible cautions; 1) Some speakers are actually designed to be listened to with the grills on. Several Wharfedale's, for example. 2) There is no set toe-in angle that works best for all different speakers, and 3) the optimum distance from the front wall varies by speaker design. Some are designed with a bass shelf, those can be placed closer to the front wall, while others will sound boomy unless moved further away.

Great video, and analogies for the layman/woman to understand. After 45 years of audio, the plants in the corners is briiliant. I wonder if my wife will notice her plants missing in the great room. 🤪Cheers from Nova Scotia, Canada eh.

    Great suggestions.
I have ceiling to floor decor thermal curtains that can slide on continuous oak poles around 3 sides of the room. Such as pushed to the corner, for base control, or pulled for a soft dead room for detail. Also for practical nighttime window coverage, roman blinds to prevent window glass reflection. Make an elegant room my wife likes into an adjustable listening room. Also a luxman amp for that bueatiful effortlessly detail.
