  To the engineers, a reactor of that design truly could not explode. They believed it in the same way Titanics designers really thought the ship couldn't sink.

  As someone who lived through the "Cold War" where the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R. were pumping out nuclear warheads at a record pace because we were all sure WW3 and a nuclear holocaust  would happen any day, I like watching current generation take in this movie not understanding the USSR policies of the time.   They were to never disagree with their superiors or "The state's" position.  They were to never say or imply that something their country did was  wrong and their country must always appear strong and flawless to outsiders - less they be thought weak in a high  tension time.  It was as authoritarian as one can get and basically a police state where one wrong word would have you arrested.

  I&apos;ve noticed that Americans when they react to Chernobyl episode one, they never really understand what the Chernobyl worker means when he asks if it&apos;s war, or if they&apos;re bombing them. <br><br>I mean, if your nuclear power plant blows up during the cold war that&apos;s probably one of the first thing you could assume.

  The pregnant wife of the firefighter is Jesse Buckley, she won all the awards this year including the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Hamnet 🎉

  Not justifying their behavior, but you have to understand that prior to this, an RBMK reactor core exploding was thought to be literally impossible. Dyatlov and the rest of them absolutely refusing to believe it makes more sense when you realize this. To them, it&apos;d be the same as someone telling them they saw a unicorn outside. That&apos;s why Dyatlov kept calling them delusional and refused to even entertain the idea that it could&apos;ve exploded.

  There are things in this world that some HAVE to run in as others run out, be glad for them. That’s why they didn’t “evacuate”, they knew what the alternative meant.

  It happend in Soviet Union. Soviet union consisted of: Russia, Ukraine and 13 other modern countries. Chernobyl is in Ukraine.
