I'd actually say the First Order is even dumber than the Galactic Empire. They learned nothing from neither the Galactic Civil War nor the Empire’s preference to build super weapons instead of a grand fleet.

Be angry at the fact that Star Wars technology stagnated after the Rakatan Empire, over 40,000 years before the Battle of Yavin.

"Palpatine didn't get enough cuddles as child and now he is throwing his toys at the rest of the galaxy". Isn't that the story, more or less of every Sith Lord?

Palps always has to be right. He says “I knew you would fall to the dark side” and then turns around and says “I knew you would betray me”. He’s like a 6 year old know it all

Everyone remember, when Thrawn explained, that he had criticized Palps military decisions three times and was every time right? After seeing this video i have the slight feeling, that the emperor send him to the unknown regions, so his competence couldn't spread through the empire and make Palpatine unnecessary. He would be a more fitting supervisor than Vader ever could be

Lando wasn’t slimy, he had a city to protect. Either he protected people he didn’t know and lost his city or he made a deal with the authorities. He didn’t ask Han to show up on his doorstep with the Empire in pursuit. Easy choice

One more note on Boba and Vader being best pals: Vader explicitly states that he wants our Heroes captured alive, “no disintegrations!” as he points at Boba, which suggests that Vader hired Boba once before, probably told him to take the target dead or alive, and Fett brought in a bag of ashes. Maybe Vader would’ve preferred taking the bounty alive, but, even so, Boba Fett did a good enough job that Vader thought it prudent to hire him again.

The biggest strike against the Galactic Empire is their incredibly wasteful spending and priorities for resource allocation, in that their most powerful weapon is a massive expenditure of funds and resources that solely exists to destroy even more resources. I looked up just how wasteful the Death Star really is. It runs on a hypermatter reactor with an energy output equal to three main sequence stars. In other words, a single blast from its superlaser contains the same amount of energy a star like Earth's sun gives off in three days, e.g. enough to destroy a small rocky planet like Alderaan.

In other words, they've harnessed this source of energy and can't think of any other use than to blow up planets. Here's what they could have done with it instead. Based on the surface area of the Earth, approximately 4.53 x 10^-10 percent of the sun's energy reaches the Earth. Taking the reciprocal, the sun's energy would be enough for over 22 million Earth-sized planets, if there were a way to capture it all. The Death Star can generate three times this, so that becomes 66 million worlds. If someone had used this hypermatter reactor to grow food, that's the number of populated planets on which they could wipe out starvation. Nobody would ever go hungry again, poverty would diminish, and no one would ever have reason to rebel. This would be a far better way to secure political power in the long term.

The Starkiller Base is even worse in this regard. It has the technology to transmit stellar energy through hyperspace, and the first thing they do with it is to murder a solar system and turn the entire galaxy against them.

The main problem with the empire wasn't just that it was evil, but it was a cartoonish level of evil.

Of all the incompetent sci-fi civs, this one actually had the shortest lifespan. It lasted barely over 20 years before the rebellion shattered it harder than Rome. We are also to assume that 19 of those years were not nearly as brutal since there was no Death Star and Vader was not obsessing over Luke. Ironically, it gets the most defenders despite this canonically short lifespan.
