As someone who lives in Aachen, it's always unreal to see a map of my city with troop movement arrows.

The “No AI” in the title got my attention—glad I clicked. Thanks for not using AI.

My grandfather lost his arm and most of his hearing in Aachen. My dad said he was a kind and happy man before, but was angry and violent after the war. I hated going to visit him as a kid.

I'm from Aachen, live here since more than 60 years and know a lot about all this. This video is a great, in my opinion the best visualization of the events. Good job, thank you!

let me tell you about my great uncle jack baker from Kentucky... he lived to be 101 yrs old and he fought in the most dangerous battles that a man could face in WW2. Jack fought in:
Omaha Beach
Cherbourg
St. Lô
Falaise Gap
Liberation of Paris
Aachen
Hürtgen Forest
Battle of the Bulge
Siegfried Line
Only a few hundred U.S. soldiers survived all of these battles.
He was part of a tiny, elite group of American soldiers who:
Landed on Omaha Beach
Fought in nearly every major Western Front battle
Survived the entire European campaign
Lived long enough to be honored by France
Received the highest award France can give
He is in the top fraction of 1% of all WWII veterans in terms of documented combat experience and recognition.
he got five bronze stars and the highest award the French govt gives out . .he was one of only 1200 D Day survivors to get this award and he received it at the age of 97
Jack Baker landed at Omaha Beach on D‑Day, June 6, 1944, at one of the deadliest landing zones. what is crazy is that due to a clerical error he skipped boot camp and was thrown into D DAY as his first battle with no training,
please give JACK BAKER a prayer and a kind thought for his service

One of the best ww2 documentary channels on YouTube hands down. Excellent content and much hard work behind the scenes I’m sure

I live in a Dutch village next to Aachen. My mom, so half of my family, is from there. No wonder I heard a lot and I've seen a lot since I was born, just 8 years after this was filmed. My mom was 23 then in 1944 and cleaned up the rubble, some time after the fight was done (and after she made it back from being refugee in Silesia) . But seeing these films and pictures - I had no idea so much footage even existed - with tactical explanation, is mind-blowing to me. Every Aachener should probably see this in Grundschule.

And now, 81 years later I'm sitting at my desk in the Oppenhoffallee/Corner Viktoriastraße and passing the railway station Rothe Erde daily. The beautiful ally I live in, the Oppenhoffallee, was originally called "Kaiser-Allee". The first mayor of Aachen after the liberation, Franz Oppenhoff was assassinated by SS Members of a commando called Werwolf. It was the 25. of March 1945, Palmsunday and the city was liberated for over half a year. To honour him this street was named after him and we have a memorial at the beginning of the street.
Thank you for the video! I will look a little bit closer now at my surroundings 🙂
