  Food for thought: Proximity to a good health care system, preferably with a university based hospital, should be a major consideration for most seniors. Even for those who are currently in good health. Minutes often matter if someone experiences a serious health related event.

  Found my retirement spot in a small town called Little Chute, Wisconsin. Tons of Dutch heritage complete with a windmill from Holland reassembled downtown. Cost of living is 11.7% below the national average and the average home costs $278,000.

  I have been retired for 12 years now. &nbsp;The number one thing you have to consider in retirement is medical care. &nbsp;We retired in Williamsburg, VA and finding doctors accepting new patients can be a challenge. &nbsp;Many people here have to drive an hour away to Richmond or Norfolk to get decent medical care. &nbsp;So be careful of any town that isn’t within 45-1 hour of a major city or else you will have long drives for medical care

  You know a town is great for retirement when you don’t even want to tell your friends about it. Quiet, friendly, affordable — and hopefully with decent coffee.
