  It's funny how people underestimate how well made this movie from 1979 is. It STILL has just as much shock value over 4 decades later...now watch the Thing (1982)

  The crew of the Nostromo was comprised of Big-Name actors...and Sigourney Weaver. Audience members at the time were highly familiar with most of the actors in this movie, but this was (I believe) Sigourney&apos;s first major motion picture and most viewers didn&apos;t recognize her. In fact, most assumed that because she wasn&apos;t as well known, that she would be one of the members killed off early in the movie. You can imagine the audiences surprise when Ellen Ripley not only survived to the end, but was the ONLY survivor (not including the cat obviously).

  I watched this in the theater when it was released and I will never forget… when Dallas turned in the air duct and the Alien was right there, the entire audience came off their seats. One of the best jump scares in movie history. Before jump scare was even a phrase.

  The original promos gave away nothing. So sitting in a theater packed with other excited people and experiencing this movie for the first time together was one of the most incredible and memorable movie-going experiences I&apos;ve ever had. P.S. Good choice watching the Theatrical Cut. The other one has a scene that seriously bogs down the momentum of the film&apos;s climax. As for &quot;Aliens&quot;, however, the Director&apos;s Cut is essential.

  The gentleman in light blue is Ian Holm, most famously known as Bilbo Baggins from the &nbsp;LoTR trilogy. &nbsp;Tom Skerritt you probably remember from &quot;Contact.&quot;

  6 months before Alien was released, Christmas 1978, Veronica Cartwright starred in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. A huge hit!! One of the best Alien movies ever made. A must watch.

  People are often weirded out by the shooting of corpses into space in certain 70’s and 80’s movies, but it’s not as weird as it seems. Space travel follows naval traditions, one of which is that of “burial at sea” where a crewman who died at sea would have his body dumped into the ocean.
