  One reason the crew is kind of useless in this situation is that they're not trained nor equipped for it. They are basically truck drivers in space, hauling ore. (Except Ash of course.) Unlike the more traditional Sci-fi trope where everyone are either scientists or military.

  To be fair, they didn&apos;t &quot;decide&quot; to go investigate the signal. The company, via MOTHER woke them up and instructed them to do so. Had they refused, they would have spent the last few months(or years) in space working for free, and likely been reprimanded and/or fired upon returning.<br><br>The xenomorph isn&apos;t the same species as the dead alien pilot. The pilot was a victim of the xenomorph species. That&apos;s why he was transmitting a warning signal. That&apos;s why his chest was exploded open.

  Ripley isn’t the only one with common sense, Parker also had common sense. &nbsp;He was the least willing to look into the alien radio signal, he was the first to suggest freezing Kane, and when the chestburster ripped out of Kane his first instinct was to kill it.<br><br>Parker made sense. &nbsp;It’s ironic he and Ripley loathed each other, because they were on the same page the whole movie.

  Don&apos;t hesitate to watch the sequel Aliens (1986) as soon as you can. &nbsp;I can&apos;t vouch for all the sequels in the franchise, but James Cameron&apos;s sequel really shines while not trying to replicate genre of the original.
